Brett T. Evans has more than a decade of experience driving, writing about, and evaluating automobiles. His early career comprised writing about pre- and post-war classic cars, as well as late-model performance diesel trucks. These varied experiences allowed him the chance to gain expertise in every corner of the auto world. Today, he spends much of his time on modern car culture and mass-market news.

Mercedes-Benz is forging ahead with its plan to build a compact SUV in the vein of the larger G-Class off-roader, but those expecting mountain-bashing capability at a smaller price point may be disappointed. Speaking at the 140th anniversary celebration of the original Daimler-Benz Patent Motorwagen, Mercedes-AMG CEO Stefan Weckbach said that the "baby G" will appeal to a totally different customer than the original, intimating that it may not have as much off-road talent. In other news, we now know that the small SUV will arrive within 24 months.

Honda’s HTX App Makes Your Off-Road Videos Cooler With Real-Time Driving Data

The Honda Trail Experience iOS app, aka “HTX,” is a cool new tool that leverages your iPhone’s and SUV’s sensors to create an interface that’s both fun and genuinely useful. I’m always skeptical of companion apps for physical products, but I tried HTX myself with a 2026 Honda Passport TrailSport at one of Overland Experts’ off-road training facilities recently and came away impressed. HTX is part data logger, part dash display, and part adventure-capture software. You can reference our news post about it for the full download. But basically, it’s an iPhone app (no Android functionality yet) that lives within CarPlay and is compatible with Honda’s TrailSport models. Scroll down a bit to see what app-captured video looks like.

The Zenos E10 Has Just Been Revived After A Decade In The Grave

It comes with more power and a new price tag The U. K. has established itself as a master of lightweight, track-focused sports cars, thanks to brands like Radical, Caterham, Ariel, and the F1-inspired BAC Mono. Now, a once-forgotten British sports car maker has been revived and has unveiled a new model. That brand is Zenos, but given how expensive the new E10 is, it may struggle to win customers. The automaker started selling the E10 in early 2014, but by 2016, production suddenly ended, and Zenos slipped into bankruptcy administration.

He has written for the Toronto Star and AutoTrader Canada and previously served as editor of Wheelscene.ca. A four-time Canadian Automotive Journalism Award winner, he is the current President of the Automobile Journalists Association of Canada, where he oversees the Canadian Car of the Year Awards program. Tired of a steering wheel that's too big or too small? Mercedes-Benz is working on an answer. The CarBuzz research team has just found a new patent for a steering wheel that can shrink and grow, making it perfect for nearly every driver. It's tough picking a steering wheel for a new model of vehicle. Forget about buttons for the horn, radio, and cruise control, or airbags and all of that technical stuff. Just the design of the wheel can be a challenge. Finding a diameter that balances comfort, effort, and interior space is no easy prospect.

Subaru Reveals First Details of New EV Platform Coming in 2029

Subaru revealed the first details of its in-house dedicated EV platform, as reported by Automotive News. The company showed a test mule based on an Outback but with two electric motors providing all-wheel-drive and around 510 horsepower. The motors are more compact and lighter, while a new battery developed with Panasonic Energy consists of 4000 cylindrical cells and is 25 percent lighter than Subaru’s previous battery. Subaru has a healthy lineup of electric SUVs, from the subcompact Uncharted to the compact Solterra and the wagon-like Trailseeker, with the three-row Getaway set to arrive early next year. But these EVs have little in the way of Subaru DNA, all created in collaboration with Toyota, which handled the majority of the powertrain development. In order to get out from under the shadow of that Japanese automotive giant, Subaru is working on its own dedicated EV platform, and just revealed the first key details of its in-house electric architecture. Subaru Outback Years To Buy, And Years To Avoid

Zack Norman has been writing about cars for well over a decade now, with way more than a thousand automotive stories written, and thousands more edited and published. Prior to joining CarBuzz, he was an author, senior editor, SEO specialist, and content strategist at Motor Verso, a leading UK-based automotive publication, in addition to being a regular contributor for a dozen other smaller motoring blogs. Zack is hopelessly obsessed with all things JDM, so if he’s not window shopping for 80s and 90s JDM sports cars and Kei campervans, he’s probably off daydreaming about cruising down the Shuto Expressway, or perhaps even thinking about how he’d want to personalize and tune some of his favorite Japanese tuner cars. Either that, or he’s off to re-watch Wangan Midnight and Initial D for the millionth time, or he might be curled up around a dimly-lit desk at 3:00 AM trying to finish building his model cars.
