Two officers injured during arrest of larceny suspect, police say

Two Boston police officers were injured Sunday while trying to arrest a Brockton man suspected of committing a theft at a South End building, police said. Kobe Perrell Nevels, 28, was charged with assault and battery on a police officer, resisting arrest, and larceny from a building, police said. He is expected to be arraigned Monday in Boston Municipal Court, records show. Around 7:30 p.m., officers saw Nevels near West Fourth Street and Frontage Road and matched him to a description of a suspect from a larceny at an apartment building on Harrison Avenue. Nevels tried to run away, police said, and when stopped he allegedly resisted arrest. Two officers were injured and were taken to a local hospital, police said. Their injuries were not life-threatening. Nevels was taken to the Suffolk County Jail for further evaluation, police said. A lawyer for Nevels could not immediately be identified. The incident happened about a mile from Blackstone Square, where two officers were taken to the hospital last week after being injured while arresting a man accused of assaulting multiple people. The state’s ruling is in on the Providence School board revolt

Vice President Anjel Newmann filed a complaint with the state last month after she and five other board members asked Stephens to include a motion for his removal on a school board meeting agenda. Stephens, who as president controls what appears on the agenda, refused. The bigger picture: The ruling offers a legal answer to a bitter leadership fight that has consumed the Providence School Board as the district adjusts to a return to local control after seven years of state oversight. If the board’s goal was to demonstrate that Providence is ready to run its own schools again, the spectacle has done precisely the opposite. Get Rhode MapA weekday briefing from veteran Rhode Island reporters, focused on the things that matter most in the Ocean State. Enter EmailStephens believes the city charter guarantees him a one-year term as president, similar to the four-year term of the City Council president. But state law says school board presidents serve “at the pleasure” of the board, and the state found that Stephens violated Newmann’s rights by refusing to put the removal motion on the agenda.

Toronto man accused of driving rental car 30,000 kms in just 7 days

We start this story with a question. Is it possible to drive 4,100 kilometres a day, for seven-straight days and only refuel twice the entire time? To put that into perspective that’s roughly the equivalent of driving from Montreal to Revelstoke B. C., which according to navigation apps, cannot be done in a 24-hour period. But according to one Toronto man’s rental checkout bill, he did exactly that.
