Canadian comedy giants ‘SCTV’ and Norm Macdonald get their due in new Netflix films - Toronto Star

For a country with roughly the population of California, Canada has historically punched absurdly above its weight class in comedy. Now, two new Netflix documentaries are honouring some of the nation’s most iconic comedians while reintroducing their genius to a new generation. Director Judd Apatow’s “Norm: The Tale of Norm Macdonald,” which debuted on Friday, uses archival footage and rare home videos to offer an intimate look at the late “Saturday Night Live” alum. And on Oct. 30, Jason Hehir’s “SCTV: The Greatest Show You’ve Never Heard Of” — yes, the title is meant to be tongue-in-cheek — takes a deep dive into Second City Television, chronicling how a ragtag group of improvisers transformed sketch comedy forever in the 1970s and ’80s. (Apatow also executive produced a documentary about the 1972 Toronto stage production of “Godspell,” currently playing in select theatres.) Backstreet Boys fans upset after seats they bought for Toronto show turned out to be obstructed - CP24

Published: October 21, 2026 at 6:23a.m. EDTOne fan says she was shocked to find the tickets she bought were being sold cheaper as obstructed view seats after more dates were added. Pat Foran has more. The Backstreet Boys announced their Toronto residency in 2027, with 12 shows, and is expected to be one of the biggest concerts in the city. However, some fans who bought tickets to the first date feel they paid a premium price for seats, which now appear to be listed to have “obstructed views.”Lisa Parent, of Thunder Bay, told CTV News that as soon as she heard the band was having their “Into the Millennium – Homecoming” residency in Toronto, she knew she wanted to go. “I have been a fan since I was 11 years old, since 1996, when their single ‘Get Down’ was released,” said Parent. The concert series follows the band’s successful residency in Las Vegas. Parent and a group of friends purchased eight seats for the February 20 show. With fees, the concert tickets came to $5,530.
