In a tale of two contrasting returns to the top flight, substitute Liam Millar scored late on to seal Hull's second straight victory in a 1-0 win at the CBS Arena while Frank Lampard's Coventry fell to a second consecutive league defeat. Still high on their opening scalp against Manchester United, after Millar slotted past Carl Rushworth on the break, there were chants of "we're going to win the league" from the away end as fans watched their side climb to second place. In scoring the winner, Millar, who replaced Elliot Stroud in the second half, made up for an earlier miss on the counter where he dragged a big chance wide of the target.
