Whether Alfa Romeo plans to introduce a new Spider remains an open question, but one coachbuilder isn't waiting around for an answer. Castagna Milano has taken to social media to unveil one of its own, a stunning two-door convertible based on the modern Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio, and not just any Quadrifoglio. Its creation uses the limited-edition Giulia GTA as its starting point. Right now, the design exists only as a series of computer-generated images, but Castagna is open to building one, and only one, for a wealthy collector.

An Italian Coachbuilder Wants to Build This Alfa Romeo Roadster

Castagna Milano, a small Italian coachbuilder, is proposing a stylish convertible based on the Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio. The styling is drastically different, with sharp creases and fang-like LED headlights. The convertible is only a rendering for now, but Castagna Milano will build it as a one-off if a customer is willing to put up the cash. The Alfa Romeo Giulia is still among the most beautiful cars available. Despite being on the market mostly unchanged since the 2016 model year, the Italian sports sedan’s styling has aged remarkably well, its smooth curves and piercing headlights creating a timeless elegance. But Italian coachbuilder Castagna Milano thinks it can improve on the Alfa Romeo’s look, whipping up a design for a new two-door convertible based on the Giulia Quadrifoglio. Castagna MilanoThe assertively styled convertible is only a render for now, but Castagna Milano says that it wants to turn it into a one-off creation if it can find an Alfa Romeo enthusiast who is willing to pay. And while the hard edges and crisp lines are quite a departure from the typical Alfa Romeo finesse, the two-door is striking enough that we think someone will raise their hand.

The Alfa Romeo Giulietta Is Coming Back As a Hatchback, CEO Says

Just as televison’s Alf came back in Pog form, beloved badges often return to manufacturer lineups in the 2020s as SUVs. Even coupes, like the Mitsubishi Eclipse and Ford Puma, have not proven not immune from the treatment. Alfa Romeo CEO Santo Filici reportedly says that the brand is bucking that trend, although it is doing so by returning to a standby of the last decade: A hatchback with the name of a historic sedan. The returning car is the Giulietta, a badge first sold for two generations in the 1950s through ‘80s as a sporty, rear-wheel drive sedan before being shelved for decades. It came back in 2010 as a compact hatchback that shared an FCA architecture with the Chrysler 200 and Dodge Dart, and it is that version set to be revived soon. In a roundtable interview, Car magazine quotes Filici as saying that the brand will build the revived Giulietta on the new STLA One architecture. That should make it a close relative of the Dodge GLH, a hot hatch that should effectively serve as the American equivalent to the Alfa.
