A lot of people are wondering how to play DMZ solo in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4, or even whether it's actually possible in the first place. I bring good news: it is definitely possible, but the setting is a little hidden, and chances are, you'll load into your first game without even seeing the option not to party up with other random solo players. Here's an explainer on how to play solo in DMZ in Modern Warfare 4, and the benefits of doing so.

When you're getting ready to deploy from your forward-operating base, select your deployment choice (story mission, dynamic operation, or free roam), then choose your infil method. Then you'll be shown a screen with your operator, your inventory, whether you want to equip a free loadout or not, and more. In the very bottom left of this screen, there's a small toggle that says "squad fill. " If you want to play solo, make sure this is turned off. Doing so will ensure you load into DMZ by yourself, rather than having random teammates with you. If you're traditionally a solo player, this is obviously great news, but playing solo has a few different benefits in DMZ. Firstly, you get to keep all the loot you find to yourself.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 DMZ Review So Far

This is a standalone review that covers only Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4's DMZ mode. You can find our campaign review here, with multiplayer impressions to follow after launch. Extraction shooters feel a little like a modern trend, with some heavy hitters like Marathon and Arc Raiders shaking the table within the last year or so, but they’ve been a growing experiment in the shooter space for the past decade or so. Call of Duty dabbled in it with the original DMZ back in 2022 (you could argue they were late to the party then), and its return in 2026 is timely. But with so much high quality competition on the market, is it welcome? I’ve only dipped my toe in since its “pay to play on time” launch on Tuesday – about five or so hours of vehicle hijacking, SAM site hacking, and target elimination on my docket so far – but this bigger, better DMZ makes a great first impression. The PvPvE dynamic of extraction shooters often lives and dies by how well the mission and level design encourages you to explore, rewards you for overcoming challenges, and guides you to interact with others in order to keep those spoils.

Modern Warfare 4's DMZ Players Are Losing Loot to Server Crashes Despite Official Fix from Infinity Ward

Updated: Oct 21, 2026 4:53pm UTCCall of Duty: Modern Warfare 4's new extraction mode, DMZ, is experiencing server issues, causing players to lose newly earned loot. Yesterday, Infinity Ward put its new extraction mode into early access ahead of MW4's full release on Friday. It's giving players a chance to mess around with the game's other offerings before the main course is unleashed, and while the reception has been glowing so far, there are some issues. The game's been having server crashes, casuing to players lose any loot they picked up. Thankfully, any loot that you already extracted to the FOB and brought back into the DMZ as part of a loadout is safe, but anything you picked up during the run that you were booted from is lost. Infinity Ward claims the matter has been fixed and has confirmed what players will keep and lose. "Players who disconnected due to this particular issue will retain the equipment they started the match with and their subsequent progression, but not the loot collected during the match," devs said in an update on Twitter/X.📢 Call of Duty: #ModernWarfare4 | #DMZ Early AccessWe’re aware of an issue causing some players to disconnect from matches.

Where to find a lieutenant tower in DMZ in Modern Warfare 4

Once you know where to look, lieutenant towers in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4's DMZ mode are easy to find, but when you're tasked with locating and climbing one as part of your initial tasks? That's where you may need a little help, because DMZ introduces a lot of new features never seen before in a Call of Duty game. If you've just booted up DMZ and you're wondering where to find lieutenant tower locations in Modern Warfare 4 DMZ, here's everything you need to know. Unlike dynamic op phones, there are just five lieutenant tower locations in DMZ, and they're fixed, which means they're in the same spot every time. The map above shows the location of all five. In-game, you can see the locations by opening your map and looking for the orangey-brown icons that look like a radio tower with a skull icon on top. Here are the five locations, along with their respective grid square:

How to find a dynamic op phone in DMZ in Modern Warfare 4

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4's DMZ mode has dynamic op phones scattered around the map, which let you begin a dynamic operation even when you're in free roam mode. Collecting one of them is required to complete the DMZ order "Payment Due," which is in the second stage of the "Human Intel" chapter, but completing this requires you to know what to look for in order to find a dynamic op phone. We're here to help though, so here's a complete explainer on how to find and collect a dynamic op phone in DMZ in Modern Warfare 4. How to collect a dynamic op phone in DMZ

COD: Modern Warfare 4 DMZ players are spawning in the middle of a road and being flattened before they can do anything

Infinity Ward opened up early access to Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4's DMZ extraction mode overnight, meaning anyone who has pre-ordered a copy can now play the game's campaign as well as DMZ. And while early reactions to DMZ are fairly positive, there's one issue in particular, which a number of players have experienced, that has the capability of ending a round as soon as it begins.
