LSU moves up to No. 18 after shutout of Mississippi State - Audacy
On a wild Saturday across college football, LSU avoided the upsets that shook up the national rankings. The Tigers shut out No. 16 Mississippi State 31-0 in Tiger Stadium, earning their most convincing victory in weeks despite dealing with significant injuries of their own. Mississippi State was without two of its top offensive players, starting quarterback Kamario Taylor and leading rusher Fluff Bothwell. But LSU coach Lane Kiffin wasn't interested in hearing excuses about the Bulldogs' absences. The Tigers have been dealing with injuries throughout the season, and Kiffin made that point clear after the game. “I know you're going to talk about injuries, and that'll be a storyline,” Kiffin said. “But hey, there ain't any team in America that has more significant players standing on the sideline than us. So not a lot of pity there.”LSU is playing without linebacker Whit Weeks and tight end Trey’Dez Green, two of its top playmakers. Starting safety Dashawn Spears and backup receiver and special teams contributor Phillip Wright are also out for the season.

7 wards to watch this municipal election
In less than a week, voters will choose city councillors in 24 wards across Ottawa. Last election saw a lot of turnover as few incumbents sought re-election, opening the door for closely fought races. This time, there are 22 sitting councillors running again, with all the advantages that come with name recognition and campaign experience. Two wards won't see any race at all after no one stepped forward to challenge their incumbents. But that doesn't mean every incumbent is facing a cakewalk. Some wards are showing signs of competitive, well-funded or at least unpredictable races. Some had tight margins last time around. Others have high-profile challengers or incumbents who've been in the news for the wrong reasons. A few have outside political players or third-party groups entering the fray. These aren't the only races with credible challengers, but here are at least some of the wards we're watching for the 2026 election. Scroll down to learn more about the races in Kanata South, Knoxdale-Merivale, Kitchissippi, Rideau-Vanier, West Carleton-March, Orléans East-Cumberland and Stittsville.

US airman who died after rappel fall at a college football game in Texas is identified
The U. S. airman who died after a rapid fall while rappelling from the rafters of a stadium before a college football game in Texas was a 15-year service member from Georgia, according to the Air Force. U. S. Air Force Tech. Sgt. Ian Patterson died after being taken to a hospital following Saturday’s fall at the Alamodome in San Antonio, Nellis Air Force Base said in a statement. He had been rappelling toward the ground when spectators watched him plunge to the field prior to Navy’s game against University of Texas at San Antonio. The military says an investigation is underway. The demonstration was part of a pregame program for the crowd during the annual “Salute to Armed Forces and Veterans” game in San Antonio. “This tragedy is felt deeply across the 57th Wing,” U. S. Air Force Brig. Gen. Scott C. Mills, 57th Wing commander, said in a statement. Patterson was a Tactical Air Control Party instructor assigned to the 6th Combat Training Squadron, Detachment 2, and served for 15 years, according to the military. He was from Fort Stewart, Georgia, and had numerous decorations and commendations.
