Arcadia surrogacy mansion mom fled U.S. after previous abuse charge, prosecutors allege
One of the defendants accused of allowing more than a dozen of their surrogate children to suffer abuse inside an Arcadia “house of horrors” previously fled the country to dodge a child abuse investigation, a prosecutor said in court Friday. Los Angeles County Deputy Dist. Atty. MacKenzie Teymouri also told a judge Friday that Guojun Xuan, 66, and Silvia Zhang, 39, kept their more than 20 children trapped inside the Arcadia mansion for years, almost never letting them see sunlight. During a search of the home last week, police also found the cremated remains of another surrogate child that had been mailed to the house; the baby died shortly after birth in Florida, Teymouri said. The defendants never opened the box, according to Teymouri, who said Xuan and Zhang were “indifferent” to the well-being of their children. The Friday afternoon hearing was sparked by Xuan and Zhang’s attorneys attempts to have their clients released on their own recognizance. Los Angeles County Superior Court Judge Caroline Lugo instead ordered them held in lieu of $20 million bail. Teymouri filed a motion last week seeking to have the couple held on $100 million bail, citing their extreme wealth.

Brazilian court orders Meta to prove Lula and Bolsonaro get equal treatment - Al Jazeera
Brazil’s top electoral court has doubled a daily fine for the United States-based social media company Meta, saying it failed to comply with an order about how political content is shown on its platforms. On Monday, the Superior Electoral Court (TSE) gave Meta 24 hours to show that it is not favouring one presidential candidate over the other in its content feeds. The penalty for noncompliance was also increased in the order, from 500,000 Brazilian reals ($100,000) to one million reals ($200,000).

Trump backs Netanyahu: Is the US planning a new Iran attack with Israel? - Al Jazeera
United States President Donald Trump has announced his official endorsement of Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s election campaign after previously refusing to endorse anyone. Trump posted on his Truth Social platform on Sunday that Netanyahu had been a “great warrior prime minister and an even greater partner for peace”, adding that Iran had been “systematically destroyed both militarily and financially, and unless they change their ways, rapidly, we will soon finish the job.”Recommended Stories list of 3 itemslist 1 of 3US President Donald Trump endorses Netanyahu for Israeli electionlist 2 of 3The kingmakers who could determine Israel’s electionlist 3 of 3Israeli police arrest 10 after settler attacks on journalist, diplomatsend of list“If Israel has the wrong Leader, which would be anyone other than Bibi, America will have to do this work ourselves, and I am not inclined to do so,” Trump wrote. “Bibi Netanyahu has been Strong, Brave, and Brilliant in the face of tremendous opposition, including that coming from even Israel, itself. Despite all of that, he has endured and, in fact, he has thrived!”.

Trump and Melania’s awkward speech on women’s health — and the comical hypocrisy behind it - The Independent
“Now is the time,” said Melania Trump, as she took to the podium on Monday morning. “This is the time.” Clearly, now and this is a time. But a time for what? “Beginning today,” Mrs. Trump said, “we will change the reality of women’s health.”It’s a bold claim, but the first lady is really underselling her husband’s efforts here. Because actually, Donald Trump started changing the reality of women’s health years ago. And the so-bad-it’s-darkly-funny detail buried within today’s supposedly “historic” executive order makes the whole thing even more absurd. In the Rose Garden Monday morning, Melania read out an oddly worded, buzzword-heavy speech about how “social norms are changing and topics that were once taboo are becoming open” (no specifics offered), about how we now have a “unique chance to reinvent women’s healthcare” (again, no specifics discussed), and how “we are women, we are resilient” and we are “deserving of lives defined not by the burdens we carry” (OK then!) Probably the most famous time the first lady went to visit a bunch of women and children was when she wore a jacket emblazoned with the words “I really don’t care, do u?” to an immigration detention center.
