You've heard of the drill that will pierce the heavens, so introducing: the drill that is attached to an entire city that will pierce the earth. That's the concept for CitaDrill, a roguelite city-builder where the city is encased in a big ole dome, a larger than life drill attached to its base that you dig through an infested planet. It's a lot, of course, but it's got some lush pixel art and a demo you can try out for yourself as part of this Steam Next Fest, too.

When you start things off, all you have is your humble drill, and a need to dig downwards. As you do so, drilling up different kinds of blocks nets you a range of resources, all dependent on the colour of the blocks you've crushed up. In typical city building fashion you use these to build up your domed city, with different fixtures providing various bonuses. Perhaps you add in a pressure valve to reduce a pressure buildup status, or you put up some power lines to get certain buildings and modules working. You may even decide to, uh, print a worker to get some jobs done.

ReBlade: The Death Spiral First Preview – Parrying Through the Cyberpunk Roguelite

Key Preview Takeaways:Combat leans heavily into parrying. The demo we played shows promise, but we’re hoping for more depth in the final version. The concept feels like a mix of Alita: Battle Angel and Cyberpunk 2077. No other gameplay maneuver has had as much impact on modern action games as the parry. This ultimate skill suits both aggressive and defensive playstyles, letting you stylishly tip the scales of battle unscathed. Games like Sekiro, Lies of P, and the recent Onimusha: Way of the Sword lean into that focused combat style action fans have embraced. The upcoming ReBlade: The Death Spiral looks set to join that growing catalog of top-level action games that give you the tools and the satisfaction of tearing through enemies' defenses – this time within the framework of a roguelite. Developer ChillyRoom has created a blend of a dungeon-crawling roguelite and fast-paced action-brawler, which leans into the idea of a cunning cybernetic warrior slashing and parrying through an ever-changing setting. In our hands-on with the ReBlade: The Death Spiral demo, we got to play over two hours of varied runs.

RimWorld meets Moebius-esque roguelite colony sim Trailblazers: Into The March welcomes you aboard its hulking landships with a chonky-sounding demo

With the devs behind RimWorld gearing up for their next game with a recent engine switch, it'd be entirely fair if you were hankering for something new (if still familiar enough) yourself. Trailblazers: Into The March is one such game, having introduced itself to us earlier this year, a mishmash of the aforementioned colony sim, Nausicaa, Moebius, Andrei Tarkovski, Jeff Vandermeer, and FTL: Faster Than Light by Edwin's measure. And now you don't just have to look at its trailers, because there's a demo for you to have a go at. "In today’s demo, we have packed in so much for you to explore. From overcoming dangerous excursions to battling threatening foes," explain developer Strangers of the demo. "Take on contracts from the fixer and build out your perfect Trailblazing crew! " If you've not actually clocked roguelite colony-sim Trailblazer before today, you are said titular Trailblazer, a captain of a landship which are essentially big, honking, vaguely animal-shaped, Shadow of the Colossus sized crafts you pilot across the ground, taking on similar such opposing vessels.
