Why these candidates want to be CEO on the Office of Hawaiian Affairs - Hawaii Public Radio

The search for a permanent CEO is coming to a close as the Office of Hawaiian Affairs Board of Trustees is expected to vote Thursday on the three finalists vying to help lead the agency’s mission of bettering the conditions of Native Hawaiians. The finalists are interim CEO Summer Sylva, who assumed the role last year after Stacy Ferreira was put on paid administrative leave; Todd Apo, a former Honolulu City Council member; and Kaulana Park, a former director of the Department of Hawaiian Homelands. Native Hawaiian beneficiaries say they want someone who will lead with the semi-autonomous agency with transparency after OHA had been criticized in the past for fiscal mismanagement, ensure that neighbor island communities have their voices brought to the table, and can work collaboratively with the OHA’s nine-member Board of Trustees. The next CEO will oversee OHA’s programs, investments, trust assets and advocacy efforts, while working closely with the Board of Trustees, beneficiaries, government agencies and community organizations. The annual salary for the CEO will be set by the board on Thursday and included in the contract. Sylva has a broad range of experience in policy matters

MTA officers reunite lost 10-year-old with family on Staten Island

A frightened 10-year-old who became separated from his family is back home thanks to quick-thinking MTA police officers and an NYPD officer who helped translate. Wednesday, October 21, 2026 11:43AMNEW YORK CITY (WABC) -- A group of MTA police officers on Staten Island is being recognized as this week's MTA Heroes after helping reunite a lost 10-year-old boy with his family despite a significant language barrier. The incident happened last month near the Jefferson Avenue Staten Island Railway station, where Sgt. Joseph Amato and Officers John Lombardo, Salvatore DiStefano, Gregory Beach and David Ghee-zuh were on patrol when they received a call about a child who had become separated from his family. The officers quickly located the boy, but encountered a challenge: they were unable to communicate with him and determine where he lived. Looking for a way to bridge the language gap, the officers contacted NYPD Officer Fang Jeen Lin, whom they knew spoke Mandarin. Lin spoke with the child by phone and helped gather information about the boy and his family.

Elon Musk's SpaceX reports 161% increase in revenue as he hints at a possible merger with Tesla

SpaceX reported a bigger quarterly profit than expected Tuesday as its satellite communications and artificial intelligence businesses boomed. The company, run by Elon Musk, posted a profit for the three months through September of $4.4 billion, or 35 cents per share, reversing a year-ago loss and easily topping Wall Street's expectations. Revenue soared to $14.6 billion, up 161%. On a conference call with analysts, Musk suggested a merger with his electric car company Tesla might be in the works, something that has been rumored for months. He said both companies formed “special committees” of independent directors to discuss the issue, though he played down the chances of an imminent deal. “Some people out there assume that a SpaceX and Tesla merger is a certainty,” he said. “I think that would be overstating it.”The AI business became SpaceX's largest by revenue in the third quarter, although the Starlink satellite service remains the biggest profit generator. “They beat across all metrics and the Starlink business looks to be accelerating,” said Dan Ives, an analyst at Yorkville Ives. “This is just what (Wall) Street wanted.”The stock rose 7.5% in after-hours trading.
