EA and Full Circle - the developer behind the new early access Skate game (skate.) - don't have a problem with modders and "creativity from players," but they're drawing the line with mods that aim to unlock paid microtransactions and unreleased content.
This comes just days after modding platform ReSkate blew up big time, reaching 350,000 downloads in mere hours. ReSkate essentially lets players experience the skating sim revival completely offline, unlike the online-only base game, with custom maps and cosmetics and servers.

Battlefield 6 Dev Owns Up To Mistakes With Strange-Looking Cosmetics, But Stays Silent On Possible AI Use
Battlefield Studios has released a statement regarding Battlefield 6 after players came together to point out oddities and irregularities with some of the game's newest cosmetics, leading many to openly wonder whether they were the result of generative AI. The developer’s statement admits mistakes with some of the newly released cosmetics, but it did not say whether genAI played a role. Battlefield Studios said it's aware of the "conversation, memes, and candid feedback" about some of Battlefield 6's new skins and cosmetic items. In particular, fans pointed out that a McNeil skin says "SECUTY" on the shoulder instead of "SECURITY." Battlefield Studios is planning to release an update to address this with the Season 5, Phase 2 patch in November. https://twitter.com/BattlefieldInte/status/2110081537882341869 "However, we recognize that letting a known visual error go live without quick acknowledgement creates confusion and erodes trust. We are reviewing how we communicate known visual bugs so you aren’t left wondering whether something was intentional or overlooked," the developer said. Battlefield Studios went on to say it takes pride in "the craft of our world and our gear," and ac

AI Cloning Threatens To End Public Playtests For Video Games
Moonlighter developer Digital Sun has announced a change of plans over a public beta for its forthcoming “tower defensevania” ReVamp, based on the recent spate of games being reverse-engineered and cloned using the latest version of Anthropic’s LLM, Claude Opus. What was once supposed to be a widely accessible playtest build via Steam is now going to be limited to a far smaller number of players through the company’s Discord. “So many of you signed up for ReVamp‘s first playtest on Steam (thank you!),” begins Digital Sun’s update posted to its X account, “but we’ve decided to start with something more contained on our Discord, with the public playtest coming a bit later.” Why? “We’ve been concerned by the recent news of games being reverse-engineered, cloned and published before the original is even out.” The issue is Claude Opus 5.5’s ability to decompile a game’s code and then recompile it back again in a way that would previously have taken determined coders months to years to achieve. And concerningly, it does a very good job of it, leading to the current rush of games being reverse-engineered and uploaded to be extremely playable on browsers.
