Halloween in Charles Schulz's Peanuts frequently meant it was time for another run at the Great Pumpkin. This running gag, introduced in 1959, was sort of like Schulz's answer to Samuel Beckett's Waiting for Godot. Linus van Pelt spent every Halloween for almost 40 years waiting for the Great Pumpkin to arrive, and he never did. The roots of the Great Pumpkin joke seem to lie in a comic strip from Oct. 23, 1959. Charlie Brown complains to Patty that he couldn't get a Halloween mask from the store... because they'd already moved on to selling all their Christmas decorations.

It's interesting to see this complaint in a comic strip from 67 years ago. We often assume that the aggressive commercialization of Christmas in particular has gotten worse in the 21st century, but it turns out it was still an issue when our grandparents were young. It also helps bring the Great Pumpkin into context as a parody of that commercialization. As time went on and Schulz evolved the joke, the Great Pumpkin picked up enough of its own unique lore that it moved away from its origins.

Nearly 4 in 10 Korean industrial technology leaks involve semiconductors: data - The Korea Times

gettyimagesbankKorea's spy agency has detected more than 100 cases of industrial technology leaks overseas over the past five years, with semiconductors accounting for nearly 40 percent of the total, data showed Sunday. According to data submitted by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Resources to the National Assembly, the National Intelligence Service (NIS) detected 107 cases of overseas industrial technology leaks between 2021 and 2025. Cyberpunk 2077's new dual wielding has already been modded to include shotguns and rifles, provided you're down to get "janky and wildly overpowered"

It was only ever going to be a matter of time, but I'm still surprised just how quickly Cyberpunk 2077 modders have taken pistol dual wielding mechanic the RPG's Edgerunners 2 update has just added in, and opened it up to include any gun Night City has to offer. Yep, twinning shotguns, assault rifles, sniper rifles, or any combo of those is now possible. Though, you'll have to make peace with the fact enemies will struggle to match your firepower. A number of different modders instantly decided to take on the task of extending the tag which governs Cyberpunk's new dual wielding perk to include everything with a trigger. There's Dual Wield Anything by long-time Cyberpunk modder E3roKK, Dual Wield Anything and Everything for 2.5 by Jollywankers, and Expanded Dual Wielding by JericoHellden. All three have been released within the last 24 hours.

Flashy internal trailer for now-cancelled Mass Effect Universe appears online, following EA's closure of BioWare

An internal trailer for the cancelled Mass Effect game that was in-development at BioWare prior to its closure this week has appeared online. It's confirmed to be real, too, amid some initial suspicions it may have been an AI generated fake. The trailer was intended for internal use, and was created for EA leadership rather than the public. It starts with a short message: "The following is in-engine footage from our small team. It uses our pre-production assets. "
