NRL Grand Final Entertainment Reportedly Set to Be Tribute For Jai Arrow - Rolling Stone Australia

Earlier this week, NRL executive chairman Peter V’landys teased that he’d had a change of heart about booking entertainment for this Sunday’s grand final, after plans for Tones And I to perform fell through. At the grand final launch on Monday, the rugby league head said that “it’ll probably be the most high-rated 11 minutes you’ll ever see.”According to The Australian, those plans are to stage a tribute for South Sydney Rabbitohs player Jai Arrow, who was forced to medically retire this year after being diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease (MND). The masthead reports that Arrow will walk a lap of honour around Accor Stadium to the famous anthem, “You’ll Never Walk Alone.” Some “eminent Australian musicians” will perform the song on the night, though it has not been revealed who those artists are. According to The Daily Telegraph, Kate Ceberano, Jimmy Barnes, Jon Stevens and Jessica Mauboy have offered to perform together in place of Tones And I. Rolling Stone AU/NZ has contacted the NRL for comment. In August, the NRL approved an arrangement for Arrow to appear in lineups for two fixtures that would allow him to reach 100 games for South Sydney.

Helping small businesses put AI to work - OpenAI

Small businesses are built on ambition: a craft you’ve perfected, a skill to share, a better way to serve a community. But turning that ambition and expertise into a business also means finding customers, managing finances, and handling marketing, often with a small team and little time to spare. AI can extend a team’s capacity, but figuring out where to start takes time too. A trusted advisor can make that first step easier. Today, OpenAI is announcing a partnership with America’s SBDC(opens in a new window)—the national network of small business development centers serving 1 million entrepreneurs each year—to help more small businesses use AI at work. In this initial phase, through OpenAI Academy’s Community Trainer Program, we plan to train around 150 Small Business Development Center advisors and bring hands-on workshops to SBDC networks across the country, with the goal of reaching at least 1,000 small businesses through in-person training and many more through one-on-one advising and resources we develop together.

Navarro opens up on health struggles that caused 'deep anger' on court - BBC

American Emma Navarro says she has gained her "life back" after opening up on long-running health problems that caused significant weight loss, fatigue, dizziness and left her "feeling deep internal anger" on the court. Navarro, who claimed her first title in more than a year at the Strasbourg Open in May, is currently ranked 24th in the world. The 25-year-old was as high as eighth in 2024, the year she reached the quarter-finals at the Australian Open and Wimbledon, and the last four at the US Open in her native New York. But towards the end of 2025 she was diagnosed with relative energy deficiency in sport (RED-S) and subsequently found out she was suffering with the autoimmune disorder Hashimoto's hypothyroidism. Those issues contributed to her losing nine of her first 13 matches in 2026 and withdrawing from the Charleston Open at the end of March. She says she initially ignored problems that dogged her for three years due to exceeding her expectations on the court. "Being new to professional tennis, I was doing what my team and I thought was best, and pushing myself to the limit was always my MO," she wrote in a lengthy post on Instagram., external"And it worked.

Miners want proven technology before investing, says digital twin developer - BNamericas

News Bnamericas Published: Wednesday, September 30, 2026 The main challenge for technological adoption in mining is not technical, but rather waiting for decision-making timelines and convincing companies that demand already proven technologies before investing in something new, according to Pablo Viveros, founder of SPF Ingeniería. SPF Ingeniería developed Pipeline-RTO, a digital twin to monitor water, concentrate, and tailings pipelines.  A technology startup can expect to wait about a year between negotiating with a mining company and the start of the service, according to the estimate by Viveros, who is also an academic at the Federico Santa María Technical University. "They are very slow processes. On average, I believe a sale takes from 8 months, in this type of highly innovative processes, up to eventually 16 months," Viveros explained to BNamericas. Surviving that period requires financing: contributions from the founders themselves and external support such as Corfo and Aster. "If you don't create those levers, you die trying," he said.

A Trump adviser's outburst and a new poll suggest Canada’s tariff strategy is landing - Yahoo News Canada

WASHINGTON, D. C. — If Canada is betting that Trump's tariff fight and Ottawa's retaliation will exact political costs on U. S. President Donald Trump and Republicans in November's midterms, it may be onto something: a senior Trump adviser just signalled that the White House sees the Canada-U. S. trade spat as politically sensitive. Speaking at an economic conference in Washington on Tuesday, Trump trade adviser Peter Navarro had a few choice words for Canada. He likened the country to a rowboat and the U. S. to an aircraft carrier before asking whether any Canadians were in the room. Addressing them, Navarro said: "If you're on K Street, get the hell out of our country because the problem you have is you lobby this country, and you've been successful in the past, and you think you can keep doing that. ""Memo to Canada: You cannot do that. OK, the game is up, and if you interfere in our elections in Maine or Michigan, you will pay even more dearly. "Navarro offered no evidence that Canadian lobbying or retaliatory tariffs amounted to election interference.

Southeast Manitoba businesses modernize from the shop floor to the cloud - SteinbachOnline

Modern work has stretched the shop floor beyond the four walls of the business. Employees can access files, applications, and customer information from almost anywhere. But what if an issue arises? Today, an IT warning might show up as a notification on your phone or a login alert after supper. That kind of anywhere access is useful, but it also means more devices and accounts are connecting to company systems from outside the workplace.

Universal Music Canada Lays Off Staff Across Several Departments - Billboard

Universal Music Canada (UMC) has laid off employees across several departments, Billboard Canada has learned. The layoffs were reportedly announced to staff in a company town hall at the major record label yesterday (Sept. 29). Sources say more than 12 roles were included in the announcement. According to a 2025 annual report by Universal Music Canada, the company employs approximately 205 people, so the cuts represent approximately 6-7% of the label's workforce in Canada. UMC did not respond to a request to verify the number of layoffs. Cuts were made across divisions, including positions in communications, marketing, A&R, label partnerships and admin. That includes senior roles at the label, with at least one with a vice president title and another with a senior manager title. Universal Music Canada is a wholly owned subsidiary of Universal Music Group (UMG) headquartered in Toronto, with offices also in Montreal, Vancouver and Calgary. The layoffs reportedly affected multiple offices. The cuts were reportedly made for cost-cutting and restructuring reasons and not based on performance.

NERON AI uses novel digital technology to measure brain performance - Canadian Healthcare Technology

Toronto-based NERON AI, a startup company, has created a computer-based system that measures brain performance through exercises that test the brain’s neuromotor control – how a person simultaneously moves and thinks. The system is sensitive enough to spot the onset of dementia years before a standard clinical diagnosis – using an on-screen test that takes about 10 minutes.
