The AI agents are spiraling out of control | Technology - The Guardian

Hello, and welcome to TechScape. I’m your host, Blake Montgomery, US tech editor at the Guardian, writing to you as rain and wind lash my windows in New York City. Today in tech, we’re discussing an alarming series of disclosures by AI companies. AI agents spiral out of control just as they go mainstreamOn 15 September, Microsoft AI published a code of conduct designed to govern the development and behavior of its artificial intelligence models amid concerns about the safety and autonomy of AI systems. Photograph: Samuel Boivin/NurPhoto/ShutterstockThe agents are spiraling out of control. Their makers can’t rein them in. And yet everyone is getting one. Since Friday, OpenAI has made a series of disclosures that have widened the scope of its AI agents’ rogue activity considerably and concerningly. In addition to hacking the developer forum Hugging Face, which was disclosed in July, the company revealed its bots broke into Australia’s government healthcare system; meddled in US government websites for the departments of education and commerce; leaked more than 50 images from ChatGPT users; and “bruteforced” a United Nations website that blocked them from accessing data.

Sophie Wilde Thinks Digger Will Teach People About Humanity And Hope - Refinery29

Photographed by Joe Maher/Getty Images. Director Alejandro González Iñárritu tackles wealth inequality, environmental harm, power, and corruption in his new film Digger. It's a satirical look at Texan oil tycoon Digger Rockwell, played by a grumpy, old-looking Tom Cruise. It's a caricature of what we imagine really happens behind closed doors, and as outlandish and ridiculous as it sometimes seems, it's also believable. Because greed corrupts and can drive humans to become rotten to the core. I won't spoil the film for you, as there's a twist that you should experience for yourself, but it will keep you entertained. It's likely to be a polarising film, but love it or hate it, Iñárritu will have you thinking. With questions around AI use and how we're slowly (or rapidly?) killing the planet, you might walk out of the cinema feeling a bit rattled. When I sat down to chat to star Sophie Wilde, she opened up about what she wants people to take away from Digger, whether she's afraid of AI, and more. Refinery29 Australia: Do you hope that billionaires watch the film, and if so, what would you want them to take away?

Keelan Cook - PortageOnline

With broken hearts, we share that we lost Keelan on Wednesday, September 9, 2026, in Halifax, Nova Scotia. Keelan was born in Brandon, Manitoba, on February 27, 1987 and lived for most of his early years there, but also lived in Portage la Prairie for periods throughout that time. He attended Crescentview School and Arthur Meighen High School when he was in Portage, and graduated from Vincent Massey High School in Brandon, making many friends in every circle. He played in the Brandon and Portage minor hockey leagues. Keelan was an athletic and spirited kid who always wanted to be in the center of any action, whether it was the sport of the day, mischief with his friends, drama to be solved with his sisters or friends, or getting into the thick of any project at home. He worked hard, played hard and loved hard throughout his 39 years. Keelan was exceptionally bright, but not a fan of any classroom, and while he was gifted intellectually, his superpower was his heart. Keelan was the confidante for many and was particularly skilled at hearing and noting that which was unspoken.
