- 30 September 2026Over 100 security and safety officials gathered in Maputo from 29 and 30 September 2026 for an Operational Preparedness Training in preparation for the 12th Edition of the African Union Sports Council (AUSC) Region 5 Youth Games, set to take place in the Mozambican capital in December 2026. The training was organized by the United Nations Office of Counter-Terrorism (UNOCT), through its Global Sports Programme, in partnership with the Portuguese Public Security Police, the African Union Sports Council (AUSC) and its Region 5 Secretariat, and the Games' Local Organising Committee. This training aimed to equip national and local authorities with practical tools and international good practices to manage a complex, multi-venue sport event in a safe, secure, and inclusive manner. It built on the participation of UNOCT in the Sports Review Forum organised by the African Union Sports Council Region 5 in Mozambique in March 2026, in the framework of the mid-term review of the 2023 - 2028 AUSC Region 5 Strategic Plan. Youth sports come at a high cost — literally | In Focus - Seattle Weekly

When I was in public school in Renton in the 1950s and 1960s, I never turned out for organized sports. Neither did my two older brothers. We lived three miles from school, my parents owned one car, and my mom stayed at home to raise us. When my kids were in public school in the late 1990s and early 2000s, my daughter turned out for fast pitch and high school tennis. My son turned out for junior high and high school football and Little League baseball. Costs were minimal.

Revisiting the Impact of People and Place in Healthcare - Psychology Today

In late May, 2026, I was hospitalized for unexpected surgery (thankfully with a good outcome). Ironically, the hospital where I was treated is one I had personally researched. It was part of a field study I did with Claudia Andrade in 2013 involving hospitals in the US and Portugal. The research was funded by a grant from the Academy of Architecture for Health Foundation. For the research, I studied units in the United States: two units in Lawrence & Memorial Hospital in New London, Connecticut, now affiliated with the Yale New Haven Health System. At the time of the research, one unit on the 4th floor was unrenovated; the other was part of a 5.5-million-dollar renovation in 2013, designed by Moser, Pilon, and Nelson Architects (now part of QA+M). This renovated orthopedic unit, called 4.2, was where I recently recovered from surgery.

NASA Checks Roman Guidance System, Takes First Coronagraph Observation - NASA Science (.gov)

NASA’s Nancy Grace Roman Space Telescope’s fine-guidance system, which allows the observatory to lock very steadily onto its targets during observations, passed a spate of tests from Sept. 15 to 21. Then on Sept. 22, the mission’s Coronagraph Instrument opened its eyes to cosmic light for the very first time. The team assigned a small part of each of the 18 detectors in Roman’s primary instrument, the Wide Field Instrument, to rapidly observe a separate guide star — stars with well-known positions used as reference points. When Roman’s attitude control system gets the spacecraft pointed in the right direction, information from the fine-guidance system then helps hold it steady throughout each observation so it doesn’t drift off target. Using only the attitude control system, Roman’s images wouldn’t be as crisp.

Genesco Sports gets the assist on NHL’s Michelob Ultra deal - Sports Business Journal

09.30.2026A-B/InBev’s Michelob Ultra was the flagship beer brand for the FIFA World Cup. Getty Images We can confirm that it was longtime A-B/InBev agency Genesco Sports Enterprises with the assist on the brewer’s return to the NHL with Michelob Ultra. The reunion comes after an absence of four years, during which the NHL had Canadian rights with A-B InBev, but had no domestic sponsor in the suds category. That now means Michelob Ultra is the lead with significant properties including the NBA, PGA Tour and PGA of America. Ultra has been America’s top-selling brew by volume for more than a year, replacing Bud Light as numero uno after 20 years. Modelo Especial, owned in the U. S. by Constellation Brands, is the leading beer in the U. S. by dollar sales. Larger A-B brands like Bud Light are still heavily invested across large properties, including college football and the NFL, but the belief here is that Mich Ultra, also the flagship beer brand for the recently completed FIFA World Cup, will be carrying the ball for the NFL fairly soon.
