Hundreds of hidden earthquakes found at Antarctica’s Doomsday Glacier - Science Daily

Glacial earthquakes are a special type of earthquake generated in cold, icy regions. First discovered in the northern hemisphere more than 20 years ago, these quakes occur when huge chunks of ice fall from glaciers into the sea. Until now, only a very few have been found in the Antarctic. In a study published in Geophysical Research Letters, I present evidence for hundreds of these quakes in Antarctica between 2010 and 2023, mostly at the ocean end of the Thwaites Glacier – the so-called Doomsday Glacier that could send sea levels rising rapidly if it were to collapse. A recent discoveryA glacial earthquake is created when tall, thin icebergs fall off the end of a glacier into the ocean.

World No. 1 Scheffler rallies to win TOUR Championship, $10M prize - TSN

ATLANTA (AP) — Scottie Scheffler’s second FedEx Cup title, and his 22nd victory on the PGA Tour during this astonishing five-year run, was different from all the others, even if looked all too familiar. Scheffler celebrated with a beer. He had just closed with a 4-under 66 in the Tour Championship on Sunday — no one else from the leading six players broke par — and Scheffler had to wait for the last two groups to finish to make it official. “There was an open bar inside and I’m like, ‘All right, I’m grabbing a beer.’ It tasted great,” Scheffler said. “I don’t really drink often. My wife and manager were like, ‘Wow, I haven’t seen you have a beer in a long time.’ Well, season’s over now. I’m going to have a beer. Well-earned beer.”There was no arguing that, and there’s no longer a debate over who had the best season in golf. Scheffler took care of that at East Lake when he made up a three-shot deficit in four holes and pulled away to win the Tour Championship, claim a second FedEx Cup title and move past Tiger Woods for most PGA Tour earnings. Scheffler signaled his rally with a 5-iron to within 2 inches of the cup on the 211-yard second hole.

Nancy Grace Roman Space Telescope - NASA Science (.gov)

Named after NASA’s first chief astronomer, the ‘mother of the Hubble Space Telescope,’ the Nancy Grace Roman Space Telescope will have a field of view at least 100 times larger than Hubble's, potentially measuring light from a billion galaxies in its lifetime. This observatory will also be able to block starlight to directly see exoplanets and planet-forming disks, complete a statistical census of planetary systems in our galaxy, and settle essential questions in the areas of dark energy, exoplanets, and infrared astrophysics.

This strange “spacetime crystal” can suddenly become a black hole - Science Daily

Physics allows for black holes far smaller than the enormous objects typically found at the centers of galaxies or created when massive stars collapse. Under the right conditions, microscopic black holes could also form when spacetime enters an unusual critical state and organizes into a repeating, crystal-like pattern. Researchers from Goethe University Frankfurt and TU Wien have now found a way to describe this process mathematically. For the first time, they derived an exact formula for the phenomenon by using an unconventional mathematical approach.
