Amendment 68: New Opportunity: D.8 Habitable Worlds Observatory Precursor Science Investigations - NASA Science (.gov)

The Habitable Worlds Observatory (HWO) is a large-aperture ultraviolet/visible/near-infrared observatory concept recommended by the National Academies of Science, Engineering, and Medicine decadal survey, “Pathways to Discovery in Astronomy and Astrophysics for the 2020s” (Astro2020). The HWO mission concept would be the first space mission designed specifically to search for life outside our solar system and would be capable of performing transformative science across astrophysics, areas of planetary science, and more. Habitable Worlds Observatory Precursor Science Investigations (HWO-PSI) program element D.8 of ROSES aims to advance the scientific foundation that would reduce risk for a potential future HWO mission. On or about July 27, 2026, ROSES-2025 Amendment 68 will release D.8 Habitable Worlds Observatory Precursor Science Investigations (HWO-PSI) as a new opportunity in ROSES-25. Mandatory NOIs are due by September 10, 2026, and proposals are due by October 26, 2026. Proposals submitted to this program will be evaluated using dual anonymous peer review.

HIV - World Health Organization (WHO)

HIV remains one of the world's most significant public health challenges, particularly in low- and middle-income countries. As a result of advances in access to antiretroviral therapy (ART), HIV-positive people now live longer and healthier lives. In addition, it has been confirmed that ART prevents onward transmission of HIV. An estimated 32.1 million people were receiving HIV treatment in 2025. Globally, 78% of the 41.0 million people living with HIV in 2025 were receiving ART. Efforts to prevent and eliminate mother-to-child transmission and to keep mothers alive have been sustained. In 2025, 88% of all pregnant women living with HIV, or 1.0 million women, received antiretrovirals (ARVs). This fact file provides current data on the disease, and ways to prevent and treat it. Fred Ramsdell: Biotech is ‘leading innovative science, not universities’ - Times Higher Education

Pressure to win research grants and publish in top journals is holding back academic scientists from pursuing truly ground-breaking medical research, according to a Nobel laureate who says biotech companies are producing more era-changing innovation than universities. Aside from a postdoctoral research post at the National Institutes of Health, Fred Ramsdell has spent his entire scientific career working in the US biotech sector, eventually winning the Nobel Prize in medicine or physiology in October 2025 for his work on autoimmune diseases.

Release of the 2025 National Survey on Drug Use and Health: Using Data to Drive the Great American Recovery - SAMHSA (.gov)

Substance use, addiction, and mental health affect many aspects of daily life in America and touch every community across our nation. During the past two decades, over 1.5 million lives have been lost to drug overdose and suicide, and many millions more have struggled with mental illness and addiction and their related health, social, and economic impacts. Substance use and mental illness are also a key driver of the chronic disease crisis impacting our nation. Research shows that substance use and health risk behaviors that emerge during childhood are strongly linked to risk for physical health conditions, addiction, and mental illness later in life. Thus, prioritizing the work of behavioral health is a lynchpin to achieving President Trump’s directive to Make America Healthy Again and celebrate the Great American Recovery. Fortunately, there are a range of evidence-based prevention, treatment, and recovery strategies that can be implemented in states and communities to prevent substance use in the first place, effectively treat addiction and mental illness, and support people in achieving long-term recovery and healing.

CRM Transformation That Keeps the Business Moving Forward - IQVIA

CRM transformation is easy to frame as a technology project; however, research shows most large transformations still fail initially. The real test is whether the business stays productive while systems, data, and workflows change in live environments. That matters in life sciences, where field execution, data trust, reporting, and compliance have to hold when old and new systems run side by side throughout a transition, not only the moment the new process goes live. IQVIA’s approach is built around business continuity. It treats CRM as a live system of execution, with value delivered early, changes introduced in controlled steps, and data, workflows, integrations, and compliance managed together across the full lifecycle. The model is backed by enterprise-scale knowledge of data, systems, and AI, deep know-how with leading CRM platforms, and experts who are certified, trained, and field-tested in systems integration.

Stepping into the role: How standardized patients help shape health education - UPEI

At the University of Prince Edward Island, community members are helping shape the next generation of health care professionals. Through the standardized patient (SP) program, housed within the UPEI Faculty of Medicine, trained participants work alongside learners from medicine, nursing, and other health disciplines to create realistic patient interactions that build confidence, communication skills, and empathy. Standardized patients (SPs) are Island residents trained to assume the role of patients in simulated clinical sessions, helping learners practice everything from taking a medical history and performing physical exams to navigating difficult conversations. These simulations take place in the Clinical Learning and Simulation Centre at the UPEI Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences Centre and are a welcome addition to the manikin-based training offered there, giving learners valuable experience working with a real person. For standardized patient Jay Gallant, the experience has been both rewarding and unexpectedly fun. “Being part of helping to train future health-care professionals is very rewarding in itself,” said Gallant.

Apple dethrones Nvidia as the world's most valuable company - Business Insider

credit should read CFOTO/Future Publishing via Getty Images Nvidia stock dropped on Monday, costing the chipmaker its position as the world's most valuable company, swapping positions with Apple. Monday's nearly 5% decline in Nvidia shares extends a volatile stretch for the company and chip makers broadly. The stock is down about 3% in a week, and its recent struggles have it caused it to lag the year to date gain in the S&P 500. The benchmark index is up 8% this year compared to 5% for Nvidia. The most recent selling in chips was sparked earlier this month by a new AI model from a Chinese startup that investors feared as a possible new "DeepSeek moment. "Monday's decline followed a report that Nvidia is in talks to provide $250 billion of financing for OpenAI's data centers, reviving fears of circular dealmaking and huge capex spending, which investors have become increasingly wary of. Nvidia and Apple swapped positions in Monday's session as Nvidia stock fell to a market cap to about $4.77 trillion. Apple stock, meanwhile, rose 1%, hitting a market cap of nearly $5 trillion. The Magnificent Seven has had a tough time in 2026, but Apple has quietly pulled ahead of the pack.

Has AI reached the singularity? What smart people are saying about Sam Altman's claim - Business Insider

Sam Altman said the singularity is here. Not everyone agrees. The singularity is often used to describe a point at which AI improves itself so quickly that humans can no longer reliably understand, predict, or control what comes next. "I've been waiting for this my whole life, and I think it's going to be incredible, hugely positive, awesome for the world," Altman, the CEO of OpenAI, said of the singularity in an episode of the "Relentless" podcast that aired Saturday. Last week, Elon Musk said in an X post that the singularity has arrived, while Google DeepMind CEO Demis Hassabis said in May that humanity was standing at the "foothills of the singularity. "However, the public response from tech's biggest leaders has notably been silent following Altman's comment. Most of those who spoke to Business Insider said they didn't think the bar had been met. Here's what smart people are saying about Altman's claim. Stuart Russell, UC Berkeley professor and author of 'Human Compatible'

Governments are gambling with Canadians’ well-being - Policy Options

My wife and I aren’t big into professional sports. I enjoy the occasional game with friends, but watching organized athletics has never been a major pastime for us. Our seven-year-old son, on the other hand, is into it. First, it was the Edmonton Oilers and their run to the Stanley Cup final in 2024. Recently, it was soccer’s World Cup. He watched whenever he could.
