GMV tests ESA technology in Fuerteventura to accelerate lunar rover exploration - Escudo Digital
The Spanish technology group GMV has tested software from the European Space Agency (ESA) on the Canary Island of Fuerteventura that allows rovers or astromobiles (vehicles designed to move autonomously or manned across the surface of a planet, moon, or other astronomical object to explore the terrain and collect scientific data) to move faster. Specifically, these tests were completed in Lajares, a town in the municipality of La Oliva, in Fuerteventura, reports EP, to validate an onboard autonomy framework consisting of a mature guidance, navigation, and control (GNC) system, called Fastnav, and a new perception subsystem based on artificial intelligence (AI), called Hawkeye, which uses onboard inference to detect obstacles and hazardous terrains.
