Quintana Roo’s Service Course Studio NEXT is a mouthful of a name, but the idea is straightforward: a premium aero road bike from a brand with decades of triathlon experience. Room-temperature Quantum Sensor Skips The Need For Cryogenic Cooling - Quantum Zeitgeist

Researchers at the University of Alberta predict a new quantum sensor could detect magnetic fields as weak as 24 aT/√Hz in just 10 minutes. This sensitivity, achieved with a 10 W ultraviolet laser, has the potential to surpass that of current cryogenic magnetometers, devices that require extremely low temperatures to operate. The analysis reveals that a relative intensity noise of -100 dBc/Hz is important for optimal performance, guiding efforts to either increase laser power or minimize noise. The approach uses a noble gas, eliminating the need for alkali vapors and enabling hours-long spin relaxation at room temperature.

Bug turns one of the biggest fears about Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses into reality - Ars Technica

Meta has previously tried to assuage concerns by pointing to the fact that its glasses light up when recording audio or video. But the bug this week shows that even with this light activated, it’s possible for the smart glasses to record inadvertently. Meta’s brief statement does little to alleviate those worries. Meanwhile, the bug lends some credence to reports and trepidation that Ray-Ban Metas are creating recordings without subjects’ knowledge.

World-record intensity in attosecond hard-X-ray pulses could unlock closer study of electrons in atoms and molecules - Phys.org

Researchers used the European XFEL to create X-ray flashes that were not only extremely short but also reached record intensity for this type of pulse. The researchers focused the X-rays to an area roughly 100,000 times smaller than the cross section of a typical human hair. This concentrated the X-ray light into a tiny but extremely powerful spot. The method could enable detailed studies of how electrons behave in atoms and molecules and, in the long term, could even allow researchers to control electrons during chemical reactions. The team has now published the results of the experiment, carried out in April 2026, in the journal Optica.

E Ink Kaleido 4 Promises Faster Refresh and Richer Color for Next Wave of E-Readers - BigGo Finance

The next generation of color e-paper is arriving with a substantial performance leap, as E Ink Holdings unveiled its Kaleido 4 platform with claims of doubled color range, brighter whites, and a refresh rate fast enough to handle video. The Taiwanese display maker announced the technology on October 15, naming Hanvon Technology's M10C II smart notebook as the first commercial device built around the new panel. The upgrade targets long-standing complaints about color e-readers, where text often appears softer and images more washed out than on monochrome screens. E Ink says Kaleido 4 doubles the color gamut volume of its predecessor to more than 40,000 colors, while white reflectance climbs 15 percent and contrast improves by 50 percent. Perhaps most notably for a display category historically constrained by sluggish refreshes, the new panel can play video at up to 18 frames per second.
