Faith Hedgepeth Murder: New DNA technology linked defendant Miguel Salguero Olivares to key evidence, forensic scientist says - ABC11 News

DURHAM, N. C. (WTVD) -- Jurors spent another day hearing detailed forensic testimony in the Faith Hedgepeth murder trial, with defense attorneys beginning their cross-examination of the state's DNA expert and focusing on what they contend were shortcomings in the handling and testing of evidence. Erin Ermish, a forensic scientist with the North Carolina State Crime Lab, was the only witness to testify Thursday. Ermish's role at the crime lab includes analyzing biological evidence such as blood, semen and saliva. She testified that she first examined evidence in the case in 2012, but re-examined several items in 2021 using updated DNA testing technology that allowed scientists to analyze additional portions of DNA profiles. According to Ermish, DNA profiles from a Bacardi rum bottle, a blue Riesling wine bottle, a white bag, Faith Hedgepeth's boxer shorts and samples collected from Hedgepeth's body included DNA from defendant Miguel Salguero Olivares. During direct examination, Ermish explained one of the DNA mixtures analyzed in the case.

Everything's recording everybody. What now? | The Vergecast|The Verge - finance.biggo.com

The Vergecast's October 15, 2026 episode is mostly a conversation about the etiquette and psychology of always-recording wearables, not a product review. The title's "everything's recording everybody" framing is fair, but the substance is narrower and more interesting: Verge reporter Victoria Song argues that tech companies are litigating the definition of a recording — claiming that if audio is transcribed and deleted, or if a camera is omitted entirely, nothing has been "recorded" — while the public's discomfort is about being listened to at all, not about what is stored. Song, who covers wearables for The Verge and was wearing four devices during the taping (Ray-Ban Meta Audio glasses, a Dexcom G7 CGM, an Apple Watch Series 12, and a Fitbit Edge, with an Oura Ring on the charger), walks host David Pierce through Meta's new camera-less glasses, Amazon's revived Bee wearable, and the consent problem that arrives when one person's device captures everyone else's data. The episode's most useful contribution is a framework, not a scoop: the shift from "my data" to "everyone else's data.

Updated: Oct 15, 2026 8:49pm UTCCreative director Mod Ryan announced that RuneScape Reignited, a new game mode designed for both old and seasoned players to start fresh, has been canceled less than two weeks after it was first announced. The news was published on October 15 in the form of an official YouTube video and blog post, where Mod Ryan revealed that Jagex’s choice to cancel Reignited was in direct response to player feedback. “We received a ton of different perspectives from all of you, and we truly appreciate everyone sharing their views. It is super important to us because the last time we didn't listen to player feedback, combat changed forever. And it has taken us over a decade to recover from that. Now I said on stage that we would not repeat the same mistakes of the past, and I truly stand by that. Considering this, we have made the decision to cancel Reignited,” the post reads. “It is clear that we missed the mark on this, and so we are not moving forward with it.

iPhone Duo Preorders Begin Friday. Is Apple’s First Foldable Phone Reason Alone to Buy the Stock? - The Motley Fool

Tomorrow's a big day for Apple (AAPL +0.40%) and for its legion of fans. The iPhone Duo, the company's first foldable phone, goes on sale at 8 AM ET/5 AM PT. In its press release, Apple lists several "ways to save and pay, including leasing with Apple Upgrade, financing options, and carrier deals," a clear nod to the fact that not everyone will be able to pay the device's eye-popping $1,999 starting sticker price up front. So, is the Duo likely to be a game changer for Apple? Here's what investors should expect from the hottest new device in Apple's product lineup. Why Apple might want to steal its own customersGiven the Duo's extremely high price point, it probably won't be that appealing to Android users looking to try out an iPhone for the first time. $2,000 is a hefty risk to take on a product you might not end up liking. Plus, Android users already have foldable phone options in the Google Pixel 10 Pro Fold and the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8, both of which have received generally positive reviews. The biggest drawback for each also seems to be the pricing, at $1,799 for the Pixel and $1,899 for the Galaxy.
