Calgarians have more room to practice, play, train and compete with the opening of Rocky Ridge Athletic Park, a major new addition to Calgary’s public recreation system. The $26-million athletic park features two multi-use, artificial turf fields, along with washrooms, parking, spectator seating and field lighting that extends playable hours and supports increased use throughout the season. Located next to Shane Homes YMCA at Rocky Ridge, the new City-operated park expands access to high-quality outdoor sport space for northwest Calgary and the wider community. “Recreation spaces help build healthy communities and create opportunities for Calgarians to connect through sport,” said Mayor Jeromy Farkas. “Rocky Ridge Athletic Park is an investment in Calgary’s growing northwest and in the public recreation system our city needs for the future.

We’ve got a new leader in the OUA clubhouse after Queen’s were able to outgun Western in a 41-30 shootout. If you’re a fan of untethered offensive football where playing defence is optional, than this contest was an all-time classic with both teams combining for over 900 yards. The Gaels came out of the gates hot taking a 24-13 lead into halftime, but the Mustangs found their stride in the third quarter battling back to retake the lead 29-27. Unfortunately that was the best it was going to get with Queen’s showing no fear putting together a dominate fourth quarter performance to take full control of first place in the OUA as we hit the homestretch. The Gaels offensive outburst was led by QB Alex Vreeken, who finished the day with 404 yards on 27 completions with two touchdown tosses to WR Russell Weir, who tallied up seven catches for 138 yards. They can celebrate for now, but the road to the playoffs will be treacherous for Queen’s with their remaining three games coming against top ten ranked Windsor, Guelph and McMaster. The first quarter was all Thunderbirds taking an early 14-3 lead, but UBC couldn’t find a way to slow down Saskatchewan for 60 minutes with the Huskies

EDMONTON - The Edmonton Oilers acquired centre Filip Hallander from the Pittsburgh Penguins on Wednesday in exchange for defenceman Spencer Stastney. The move comes as the Oilers deal with injuries to several forwards, including Ryan Nugent-Hopkins, Zach Hyman, Matthew Savoie, Jason Dickinson and Mattias Janmark. The 26-year-old Hallander had a goal and two assists in two games with Pittsburgh this season. The six-foot-two, 207-pound native of Sundsvall, Sweden, was a second-round selection of the Penguins (27th overall) in the 2018 NHL draft. He has two goals and five assists over 18 career NHL games with the Penguins, and 26 goals and 36 assists through 107 games with Wilkes-Barre/Scranton of the American Hockey League.

LIV Golf will be losing one of its biggest stars as it looks to reinvent itself after bankruptcy Jon Rahm will not be part of LIV Golf 2.0, leaving the golf league without one of its biggest stars and draws for potential investors as it goes through bankruptcy. Rahm's lawyer made the announcement during LIV Golf's bankruptcy hearing on Wednesday, stating Rahm "has independently reviewed the proposed terms of LIV 2.0 ... and has determined that those terms are unacceptable to him, and he will not be participating going forward," according to Front Office Sports. Immediately following the bankruptcy filing, in which Rahm is listed as the top unsecured creditor with more than $7 million owed to him for the third quarter of 2026 alone, Rahm stated that he was "more than willing to fulfill" his contract with LIV 1.0. However, the revamped league will not be honoring those contracts, and the new offer on the table, which included an ownership stake, is not something Rahm is interested in. He will now leave LIV Golf and explore his options elsewhere.
