Mikel Arteta to begin new era at Arsenal as club eye Premier League dominance and Champions League success - Sky Sports

When Mikel Arteta signed his last Arsenal contract in September 2024, his quest to bring major silverware back to the club was ongoing. Two years later, he signs his new one after leading them to a long-awaited Premier League title. His task now is to turn champions into serial winners. Arteta has overseen a total transformation of the club since his appointment in 2019. Arsenal, 10th in the Premier League table when he took over, were in a state of drift. Now, they are re-established among Europe's elite, unrecognisable in all departments.

Mammoth's Karel Vejmelka: Pulled in bad team effort - CBS Sports

Vejmelka made 11 saves in relief Thursday in a 6-1 loss to Boston. He allowed three goals. Sebastian Cossa was pounded by pucks to start the game, and he allowed three goals on eight shots in the first period before being pulled. Neither goalie got any support from his teammates. Cossa has just three NHL starts so far, so he'll likely get 20-25 starts. Vejmelka will have to carry a heavy load as the kid develops. He's coming off a 38-win season, but his ratios were 2.75 GAA and .897 save percentage. So far, Vejmelka is 2-1-0 with one shutout, 2.43 GAA and .892 save percentage in three starts this season.

Golden Knights' Brett Howden: Scores in shootout win - CBS Sports

Howden scored a goal on three shots and added two hits in Thursday's 4-3 shootout win over the Maple Leafs. The goal was Howden's first of the season. The 28-year-old has gotten a chance to open the season in the top six, but with two points through five games, he may cede his spot to a younger forward like Trevor Connelly or Braeden Bowman at some point. Howden has added 10 shots on net, seven hits and a plus-1 rating while seeing minimal power-play time. Golden Knights' Brett Howden: Pair of points in win

Darius Acuff Jr. scores 12 points vs. Lakers - NBC Sports

Darius Acuff Jr. finished Thursday’s exhibition against the Lakers with 12 points (4-of-15 FGs, 2-of-2 FTs), one assist, two steals, one block and two three-pointers. Outside of a solid finish to the first half, Acuff struggled mightily on Thursday. The rookie point guard missed his first nine field-goal attempts, and he finished with more turnovers (three) than assists (one). Reading too much into two preseason appearances would be foolish, but those who roster Acuff will need to exercise patience.

Luka Dončić drops game-high 23 points vs. SAC - NBC Sports

Luka Dončić recorded 23 points (6-of-16 FGs, 9-of-9 FTs), three rebounds, three assists, one steal and two three-pointers in Thursday’s exhibition against the Kings. Dončić picked up a technical foul during the third quarter of Thursday’s exhibition, but this is a good time for that to happen since they don’t carry over into the regular season. Dončić led the Lakers in points and shot attempts, and that will once again be the norm when the regular season begins. Currently boasting a top-5 ADP, Luka’s fantasy ceiling rises slightly in turnover-punt builds.

The Sports Psychology Lessons Sunderland Can Learn From - Roker Report

If you’re reading this, it’s a given that you love sport - well, at least Sunderland AFC and football in general. I love all sports. I always have. It’s probably my Dad’s influence because, ‘back in the day’, the television was the magic box in the corner of the room. There were no mobile phones, Xboxes, PlayStations, etc., to draw us away from family viewing. Any form of ‘play’ was done outside with mates, or, if we were confined to indoors, Subbuteo or Scalextric. Photo by Haywood Magee/Picture Post/Hulton Archive/Getty ImagesSo my Dad would watch all sorts of sport on television, including rugby league and union, cricket, athletics, golf, horse racing, snooker, boxing and even crown green bowls! For those of a similar age, this meant we grew up being fans of Sportsnight with Coleman, Floodlit Rugby League, Pot Black, Big Break, Test Match Special, Grandstand and, of course, Match of the Day. I’ve continued to follow many sports throughout my life, even branching out to those that got very little coverage on TV. In my late teens and early twenties, I discovered Speedway and was a regular at Brough Park to watch Newcastle Diamonds with Ivan Mauger or Kenny Carter.

Can Brock Purdy And Kyle Shanahan Solve The 49ers’ Mike Macdonald Problem? - FOX Sports

For the 49ers, Sunday’s game in Seattle is as big a Week 5 game as it can get. First place in the NFC West is on the line, and if the Niners can win it, they’ll have a multi-game lead in the division with tie-breaking wins over both the Rams and Seahawks. That’s a nice little cushion in the league’s most competitive divisional race. San Francisco-Seattle games are always bitter, but the 49ers carry an extra layer of resentment into this tilt after how last season ended, with the Seahawks defense stuffing their offense in a locker twice in three weeks, including a 41-6 beatdown in the NFC Divisional Round. It probably means a little more for 49ers coach Kyle Shanahan and quarterback Brock Purdy, who have spent the last few years tearing through defenses but always seem to struggle against Seahawks coach Mike MacDonald. In their first matchup, when MacDonald was calling plays for Baltimore’s defense, Purdy threw four interceptions in a 33-19 loss on Christmas night that ended his MVP campaign back in 2023.

Hurricanes' Jackson Blake: Posts one of each in win - CBS Sports

Blake bagged a goal, tallied an assist, put two shots on net and dished out two hits in Saturday's 5-2 win over Chicago. Blake tallied Carolina's third goal of the night before recording the primary helper on Taylor Hall's goal later in the second period. The 23-year-old Blake's goal Saturday was his first of the 2026-27 campaign, where he's up to seven points and 16 shots on net across six appearances. He's currently riding a five game point streak and is poised to be involved offensively all year long from the Hurricanes' top six. Blake could reach the 50-point threshold again in 2026-27, which would make him a strong fantasy option in deep leagues with plenty of upside as a weekly streamer in shallow leagues.
