Opinion | Watching sports on TV has gotten too complicated - and expensive - The Boston Globe

Even with no dog in this year’s World Series hunt again — it’s been 40 long years since the last New York Mets championship — I’m still watching the Major League Baseball playoffs. In fact, not having a specific team to root for makes the games less emotionally taxing, and more enjoyable. I can’t say the same for the complicated experience of watching sports on TV. There was a time when you knew which free, over-the-air broadcast networks aired which leagues. When ESPN and regional sports networks entered the picture, a pricey cable package was necessary, but at least there were only a few more channels to keep track of. In the last couple of years, though, streaming giants like Netflix and Amazon Prime have been scarfing up live sports. Everything has changed. With rare exception, my pregame ritual now includes scrolling through a cable menu to see where the game is being shown, if it’s available on regular TV at all. If it’s not, I have to turn to a search engine to find said game, too often discovering it’s on a cable channel I don’t have or streaming on a service I don’t subscribe to.

Heat's Ryan Conwell: Team-high 22 points off bench - CBS Sports

Conwell posted 22 points (7-18 FG, 2-9 3Pt, 6-7 FT), nine assists, five rebounds and two steals over 32 minutes during the Heat's 125-124 loss to the Timberwolves during Saturday's preseason game. Conwell saw most of his playing time and production during the second half of Saturday's exhibition game while the starters rested. The rookie second-rounder has made a strong early impression during training camp, and if he can carry that momentum into preseason games, then he could force his way into a rotational role for the Heat for the 2026-27 season. Tom Brady Remembers The Saddest Moment Of Career: 'Worst Thing I Could've Ever Imagined' - FOX Sports

The controversy surrounding a pair of NFL referees getting suspended due to their conduct toward players this past week led Tom Brady to take a bad trip down memory lane, but not in the way you might think. In the most recent edition of #AskTom, Brady was asked what the worst thing he ever heard a ref say during his playing days. His answer wasn't a message that a referee personally gave him. Rather, it was a call that led to arguably the worst loss of Brady's career. "This one’s a little easier than I thought: ‘The catch on the field has been confirmed’ on the David Tyree catch," Brady said, referring to Tyree's remarkable reception in the New York Giants' upset win over the New England Patriots in Super Bowl XLII. "That was the worst thing I could’ve ever imagined. "The Tyree catch is arguably the greatest catch in NFL history. With the Giants trailing 14-10 in the final minutes, Eli Manning somehow ran his way out of a sack before completing a 32-yard pass to Tyree, who pinned the ball to his helmet to complete the catch. Four plays later, the Giants scored the game-winning touchdown, ruining the Patriots' chances to become the first team to go 19-0 in NFL history.

Larsson won't return to Saturday's preseason game against the Timberwolves due to an illness, Anthony Chiang of the Miami Herald reports.
