The Los Angeles Dodgers have won back-to-back World Series titles thanks largely to historic spending. A full14 players on the Dodgers' roster are making eight figures this season, and Tarik Skubal (who is making $32 million overall, but $9.5 million prorated after the Dodgers acquired him) isn't far behind from making that 15. For reference, the Mets, the team closest to L. A. payroll-wise, ended the year with just eight players making eight figures this season. Most of those deals are ones the Dodgers would sign off on again. Even guys who have struggled this postseason, like Freddie Freeman, Mookie Betts, Shohei Ohtani and Will Smith, have done so much for this team in recent years that it's hard to say the Dodgers should regret paying them. These three deals, though, are ones that the Dodgers should regret offering, now that their three-peat dreams are officially on life support. The Dodgers, even after winning back-to-back World Series titles, elected to give Kyle Tucker a four-year, $240 million deal in free agency.

Those who would weep for the Los Angeles Dodgers right now are in the minority. They can spend $500 million on a roster all they want, but money like that doesn't buy sympathy when it's on the verge of failure.

WASHINGTON (AP) — Alex Tuch scored twice and added an assist and the Washington Capitals beat the Montreal Canadiens 5-4 on Wednesday night. Jordan Kyrou had a goal and assist, Justin Holl and Ivan Miroshnichenko also scored and Charlie Lindgren stopped 26 shots to help the Capitals snap a two-game losing streak. Josh Anderson scored twice and Lane Hutson and Nick Suzuki added goals for the Canadiens. Both teams played on Tuesday night, with Washington falling 4-2 at Carolina, and Montreal edging Buffalo 4-3 in a shootout at home. Montreal got off to a quick start when Anderson, alone at the net front, buried a feed from Alex Newhook 4:56 into play. Minutes later, Kryou responded, cutting to the middle before rifling a quick shot past Jakub Dobes. Roughly halfway through the first, Montreal regained the lead, as Hutson, playing against younger brother Cole for the first time, beat Charlie Lindgren on a quick shot from the slot. With 25 seconds to go in the period, the Capitals tied it 2 on a power play. Ivan Miroshnichenko’s backdoor feed to Tuch went off Anderson’s stick and in. Washington took a 3-2 lead 6:16 into the second period, when Tuch had a short-handed goal.

The Philadelphia Flyers have got to do something to turn around their 0-5-3 start. They signed veteran free agent Michael Bunting last week and called up Jack Studnicka to replace Carl Grundstrom over the weekend. Neither of those moves are really going to move the needle in the long run, but at least Danny Briere and Keith Jones are pressing what buttons they can before slamming the “break glass in case of emergency” button. We’ll see how long that takes.

Following a hate train directed at her, Sydney allegedly hit back by dropping photos of athletes from similar bare-body shoots. Weeks later, she doubled down by dropping another clip from her unclothed Novig ad campaign. Sydney was called out by female athletes and their family members for the ad. Recently, MLB outfielder Alex Call also joined the public backlash against the actress, criticizing the fact that her Novig commercials are shown during baseball's biggest games- events often watched by families.

As we go further into the 2026-27 season, the question remains: Will the Detroit Red Wings trade Dylan Larkin? Larkin’s name has been in headlines since June, when he was first asked for a trade from the only team he’s ever known. At first, he only asked to go to three teams – the Vegas Golden Knights, Florida Panthers and Minnesota Wild. He has since expanded that list to 8-9 teams. Yet, a trade has yet to be made, leading many to believe the former captain might have to expand his list of preferred destinations even more to make it happen, or else he’ll have to continue to play in Detroit.
