Eby says he will protect public health care from U.S.-style privatization - Indo-Canadian Voice

DAVID Eby on Monday outlined new rules to strengthen public health care in B. C. and guard against U. S.-style privatization. Every BC NDP candidate has signed on to a Public Health Care Guarantee that commits to protecting public health care and stopping out-of-pocket charges, as is happening now in Alberta under a Conservative government. “Universal public health care is an expression of who we are as Canadians. It’s a promise that we take care of each other, no matter who you are or how big your bank account is,” said David Eby, BC NDP leader. “That’s why hundreds of health workers are coming from the U. S. to build their lives here in B. C. They want to focus on the care their patients need, not what an insurance company says they’re qualified for. Every single one of our candidates is committed to protecting what makes us stronger and stopping American-style privatization.”

AmeriBen’s emailed spreadsheet sparks Ninth Circuit health data ruling - Human Resources Director

One emailed spreadsheet unlocked a federal class action and a Ninth Circuit ruling that changes how health data breaches play out in court. In August 2023, IEC Group - a benefits administrator operating as AmeriBen - sent letters to two health plan members with an uncomfortable admission. An associate had emailed a spreadsheet containing their confidential health information to “one or more plan members.” The data that may have been exposed included names, provider names, claim numbers, dates of service, and amounts billed or paid.

Embedding mental health care into primary care is an economic imperative - The Hill Times

By scaling existing models for integrated mental health care, Canada can improve patient outcomes while driving economic growth. Canada needs a national primary care strategy so that all federal, provincial, and territorial governments are on the same page and not running their own separate experiments when it comes to mental health services, write doctors Lesley Lutes and Sabrina Wong. Among gay and lesbian teens, an estimated 61% of those without a trusted person had experienced depression in the past year, compared with 35% of those who had at least one person to turn to. The gap was even wider for suicidal thoughts: 66% of gay and lesbian teens without a trusted person had seriously considered suicide, compared with 27% of those with one.
