LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- Los Angeles City Controller Kenneth Mejia has issued a subpoena seeking financial records from LA28 after the organization allegedly failed to provide documents he requested in August, according to Mejia. Mejia said the records he is seeking include bank statements, venue budgets and the identities of contractors receiving money from LA28, the private nonprofit organization responsible for hosting the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles. He said LA28 is contractually obligated to provide those documents to his office. The controller says access to the records is important because Los Angeles taxpayers could be responsible for costs if the Summer Olympics exceed their budget. "This is unacceptable. Massive marijuana grow operation uncovered in Bronx apartment during eviction

FORDHAM, The Bronx (WABC) -- A suspected illegal cannabis grow house containing 30 marijuana plants was discovered in a Marion Avenue apartment in the Bronx when a city marshal was carrying out an eviction, according to the New York City Sheriff's Office. Residents of the building said the odor coming from the apartment had been overwhelming for months, with some fearing it posed a safety risk. "Not safe for the building - the whole building gotta be smelling that," one resident said. Another resident said, "I'm thinking that there was a dead corpse here somewhere - when I find out it's a freaking drug lab yo! "Authorities confiscated 30 cannabis plants from the apartment. Neighbors said the operation appeared extensive despite being run out of a small unit. Evelyn Arredondo, who lives next door to the apartment, said she had previously reported concerns about the smell to the Fire Department of New York. "Itch my throat, my eyes and my nose. And just I called the fire department - you know - I said maybe there's gas around but they didn't find nothing," Arredondo said. FDNY crews returned Monday with hazardous materials trucks after the grow operation was discovered.

Local rivers treated as sea lamprey numbers decline in Lake Michigan - Shoreline Media Group

Sea lamprey control crews completed treatments on the Pere Marquette River in Mason and Lake counties and Gurney Creek in Mason County this year, as the Great Lakes Fishery Commission reported a slight decline in Lake Michigan’s adult sea lamprey abundance. The Pere Marquette River treatment targeted an estimated 415,305 larvae during a July 28-Aug. 6 treatment window. Gurney Creek’s treatment targeted an estimated 1,829 larvae during a May 5-14 window. Both are listed as completed on the commission’s treatment schedule, updated Sept. 23. Those figures represent estimates of larvae targeted, rather than confirmed numbers killed. Treatments use lampricides to control larvae before they mature and move into the Great Lakes. Lake Michigan’s adult sea lamprey index fell to 20,211 in 2026 from 21,273 in 2025, putting the annual estimate just below the management target of 20,526. However, its three-year average of 22,094 remained above that target, according to the commission. The local treatments are part of an ongoing effort between the United States and Canada to suppress the invasive parasitic fish, which attack Great Lakes fish by feeding on their blood and body fluids.
