Luke Littler: World number one knocked out of World Youth Championships in semi-finals - BBC
Luke Littler missed out on the chance to hold the senior and youth world titles simultaneously after suffering a surprise semi-final defeat at the World Youth Championship. The 19-year-old world number one was beaten 6-5 by world number 68 Cam Crabtree, who will face German Jan Schmidt in the final on 29 November. That match will take place on finals day at the Players Championship Finals in Minehead – an event Littler has also yet to qualify for having skipped the majority of Pro Tour events this season. He is currently ranked 126th in the Players Championship order of merit and only the top 64 qualify. Four Players Championship events remain, but two of those are in Den Bosch in the Netherlands - where Littler withdrew from events recently after being subjected to boos by the crowds. Littler has won successive full World Championships and won the youth title as a 16-year-old in 2023, but the semi-final loss to 23-year-old Crabtree was his second successive exit at that stage having lost to Beau Greaves in 2025. He could though enter four more times, with the tournament open to players aged 23 or under at the start of the season.

Tiny ancient black holes may live in a five-dimensional world - Phys.org
This artist's concept takes a fanciful approach to imagining small primordial black holes. In reality, such tiny black holes would have a difficult time forming the accretion disks that make them visible here. Credit: NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center Primordial black holes (PBHs) don't exist as far as we know. But if they did, these hypothetical objects would have formed in the early universe rather than from dying stars, and they may even make up dark matter. That's not the end of the weirdness. Their formation could have been even stranger if it occurred in a universe with a dark dimension, which is another theoretical construct. It posits that our space includes a hidden extra spatial dimension.

World Teachers' Day - UNESCO
In 2026, the Day marks the 60th anniversary of the 1966 ILO/UNESCO Recommendation concerning the Status of Teachers. Six decades on, as the Recommendation is being revised, new challenges have emerged for the profession, from digital technologies and climate change to inclusion, migration and displacement. These pressures affect several dimensions of the status of teachers: their symbolic status, when teaching is not sufficiently recognized or valued; their professional status, shaped by limited autonomy, support or voice in policy-making; and their material status, compromised by salaries, workloads and working environments that do not allow teachers to fully exercise their role. Under the theme "Standing with teachers: 60 years of protecting the profession, advancing its status and shaping our futures," the 2026 edition will centre on reviewing the current challenges related to teacher status and the strategies to address them, calling on society and policy-makers to protect, promote and elevate that status.

Ebola outbreak shows that the world is not ready for the next pandemic - Geneva Solutions
As Ebola continues to spread in the eastern Democratic Republic of Congo, the burning question at recent UN pandemic preparedness meetings at the UN General Assembly was: Is the world willing and able to pay for readiness? When the Marburg virus hit Rwanda in September 2024, the country’s No. 1 goal was stopping community transmission. Marburg, in the same family as the Ebola virus, is second among the top-four deadliest viruses in the world. More than 80 per cent of people who contract the disease die. The country tracked the source of the zoonotic disease, and using genomic sequencing, sequenced the virus. They discovered that the outbreak was closely related to a sequence that happened in an outbreak of Marburg in Uganda in 2014. Rwanda mounted an ambitious response by beginning contact tracing, mass testing and surveillance. Ultimately, 9.6 million people were screened by about 54,000 community health workers. From the diagnosis of the first case of Marburg to the deployment of the first shot of the experimental Sabin Vaccine Institute inoculation was 10 days. The case fatality rate for the outbreak stayed at 22 per cent, the lowest ever recorded for the virus.
