Anne Carson’s Nobel Prize: Where the ancient world meets postmodern literature - The Conversation

When the Swedish Academy announced Anne Carson as the recipient of the 2026 Nobel Prize in Literature, in Stockholm, I was participating in a panel discussion in the same city at Stockholm University about possible laureates — and the literary traditions they represent. Before the announcement, I had spoken about two Canadian writers, Margaret Atwood and Carson, whose international recognition reflects different trajectories within contemporary literature.

Forbes ranked the world's best employers and these 8 Quebec companies made the cut - MTL Blog

Most of us have, at some point, wondered whether the grass is greener at another company. And if you've ever caught yourself scrolling LinkedIn for jobs on a slow Tuesday afternoon, you're probably not alone. Now, Forbes has put together a list that might help narrow things down. The magazine recently released its World's Best Employers 2026 ranking, and a handful of Quebec companies earned a spot among the top workplaces on the planet. For its seventh annual list, Forbes teamed up with market research firm Statista to survey more than 300,000 employees in over 50 countries. Everyone surveyed worked for multinational companies with more than 1,000 employees. Participants were asked how likely they'd be to recommend their employer to friends and family. They also rated their company on things like benefits, work environment, talent development and training opportunities. In the end, 900 companies from 52 countries made the list. Tech giant Microsoft took the top spot for the third year in a row, followed by Delta Air Lines. And Canada can claim the bronze, with Ottawa-based Shopify jumping all the way to No. 3 from No. 14 last year.

FIFA’s World Rankings After Fall Window: Portugal Rises As Brazil, Germany Sink - Sports Illustrated

There were more matches than usual across an extended three-week international window and that has resulted in movement in FIFA’s world rankings. Countries from Europe, Africa and the Americas were in competitive action over the break, but many nations also spent their time traversing the globe to compete in friendlies. There was a healthy balance of high-profile clashes—predominantly in Europe—and lesser-seen matchups, such as Brazil’s first-ever battle with India and Argentina’s maiden clash against Benin in what was Lionel Messi’s farewell match. How Are FIFA Rankings Calculated? At its most basic, FIFA rankings are determined by the outcome of a country’s matches. Nations have a running points total which gets added to or subtracted from using the Elo method of calculation depending on whether a team wins, draws or loses a fixture. Obviously, the more matches a country wins, the more its points total increases and, in turn, its FIFA ranking improves. But not all matches are made equal.

Here Are the World’s 50 Best Bars, According to a New Ranking - Robb Report

Bar Leone, a cocktail spot in Hong Kong, has once again been crowned the best bar in the world, according to 50 Best Bars’s newest ranking. The Italian-themed locale in the city’s Central District was perched in the No. 1 slot on last year’s ranking, too. The 18th edition of the list was unveiled in Milan earlier this week, with some 800 judges submitting their votes. It makes sense why Bar Leone has remained at the top. Cofounded by Lorenzo Antinori, the bar is focused on creating cocktail popolari, or “cocktails for the people”, with the goal of crafting accessible, timeless drinks instead of following trends—all wrapped in one warm, welcoming locale that is inspired by watering holes in Rome’s Trastevere district. All that attention to detail made the spot the first Asian bar to ever top the World’s Best Bar list in 2025.

WSG ASU26: Skateboard Park Open Qualifier Results - World Skate

The first thing that hits you is the sheer scale of the operation: the World Skate Games are taking place at three locations across the Paraguayan capital of Asunción, with Park and Street skateboarding both taking place within the footprint of the Paraguayan Olympic Committee Park, which is pretty close to state-of-the-art as far as multi-sport venues go: BMX tracks, indoor velodromes, football pitches, aquatic centre, mini-stadia for sports like beach soccer and hockey, marquees for food villages, live music stages, golf course- everything. Foremost among the new additions to this sporting cornucopia is their brand-new Park skateboarding FOP, and Oh Boy is it a beast. We will come to the context within, and rationale behind, Asuncion’s new skateboarding creation later this week- but for now let’s acknowledge that Paraguay have just dealt themselves into the international skateboarding destination game with an all-time build which could see them become a fixed star on the worldwide Park skateboarding circuit through delivering a performance space which reflects the direction of travel in terms progression within the international top flight.
