TheBodyPro | Treating multidrug-resistant HIV: Valuable lessons from new real-world data on fostemsavir - European AIDS Treatment Group

HIV TreatmentOctober 11, 2026TheBodyPro | Expert analysis from Benjamin Young, M. D., Ph. D. In a year highlighted by new antiretroviral approvals and often dominated by conversations about simplifying therapy, new study results on the treatment of multidrug-resistant HIV may feel anachronistic. But in a way, the findings — which focus on real-world outcomes of people taking fostemsavir — may be perfectly timed to remind us how complicated HIV treatment strategy still is for an important subset of our patients. Key TakeawaysFostemsavir’s use case remains niche, but it continues to show its value in patients with multidrug resistance and persistent viremia. And its potential immunologic benefits are worth further exploration. At 12 months after initiating fostemsavir-containing treatment, 22% of initially viremic participants achieved HIV RNA below 50 copies/mL, while 59% reached below 200 copies/mL. Among participants already virally suppressed when starting fostemsavir, 79% maintained HIV RNA below 50 copies/mL at 12 months. Read the full analysis here. Pakistan detains hundreds of politicians from Imran Khan’s PTI party - The Guardian

Politicians from the party of the former Pakistani prime minister Imran Khan have been detained after the suspension of a provincial government now under emergency rule. Pakistan’s president declared a state of emergency and suspended the government in north-western Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, led by Khan’s ally Sohail Afridi, on Sunday. Asif Ali Zardari’s federal government said the emergency rule was invoked after the provincial government failed to tackle Islamist militancy in the province, which borders Afghanistan. Khan’s Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party rejected that assertion, saying it was enforced to deter his supporters from marching to Islamabad, the capital, to pressure the government for his release. The imposition of emergency rule and suspension ‌of the provincial government have sharply escalated ‌confrontation between the 74-year-old former cricket star and the country’s powerful military. The emergency rule came a week ‌after Khan’s supporters had rallied for days in the province, intending to march to Islamabad to demand his release and provide medical treatment.

Big Boss Interview | Microsoft President: Britain Should Write World's AI Rules - BBC

Artificial intelligence is advancing faster than the safeguards around it, and industry self-regulation is "not sufficient any longer". That is according to Brad Smith, president of Microsoft. Speaking to Will Bain on BBC's Big Boss Interview, Mr Smith said the world should worry more about AI safety than about any previous generation of digital technology in his 33 years in the industry. Microsoft is one of the world's largest AI developers and an investor in OpenAI. Mr Smith's comments set out a position that goes beyond the "tremendous self-regulation" praised in a recent White House AI accord. "Right now I'd argue that AI is moving forward faster than the speed of safety," Mr Smith said. "That's not good for the protection of the public. It's not even good for the industry itself. "Mr Smith set out three measures. The first is a "safety brake or emergency brake" on any AI system controlling autonomous devices or critical infrastructure, an idea often described as a kill switch. He said it should sit in the companies running the models and in the cloud infrastructure they run on.
