World’s oldest shipwreck discovered off coast of Turkey - The Conversation

A shipwreck off the coast of Turkey is the oldest shipwreck in the world, our team of archaeologists believes. There’s little left of the ship itself but based on clues from its cargo – including pottery vessels – a research team I was part of has tentatively dated the wreck to around 2700–2400 BCE.

Jorgensen wears number one with LA points on line in Beijing - World Triathlon

The last time Gwen Jorgensen sported the number one at a World Cup in Asia she took the win, thanks to a fierce final surge in Miyazaki in 2024. The current world number 22 arrives in Beijing this weekend having clocked the second-fastest 10km time at last month’s Championship Finals Pontevedra and ready to get back to winning ways on the World Cup circuit. The two-lap 1500m swim transitions to eight fast 5km bike loops to the south of the reservoir, then into the running shoes for the four-lap 10km run to the tape. You can watch it all from midday local time / 6am CEST on TriathlonLive.io. Five wins, two silvers and a bronze at this level since her return in 2023, Gwen Jorgensen has not missed a World Cup podium in eight races, and will have no intention of missing out here with 500 LA28 qualification points also for the winners. Six US women in the ranking top 30 tells its own story with a maximum of three slots available for that huge home Olympics on the horizon, and Jorgensen once again looked in rare form on the run in Pontevedra.

Bizarre scenes unfold at gravel world championships as leaders weave through age group racers - Canadian Cycling Magazine

Over the weekend, Nannup hosted two truly thrilling world championship races. Both the men’s and women’s races saw tactical battle play out through numerous attacks and lead changes in the final kilometres of the day. The one difference? The men had the road to themselves. 2026 gravel world championships started with the women’s race. With 53km left to race, just as a front group of five had formed after a decisive attack over a long, grinding climb, the leaders started to hit lap traffic. Then the lead group was six? Then seven? For a brief stretch, eight? As the women caught riders, they were latching on to the lead group to hitch a ride.

Shipwreck believed to be the world's oldest discovered off the coast of Turkey - ABC News - Breaking News, Latest News and Videos

Archaeologists estimated that the cargo ship sank 4,400 to 4,700 years ago. Archaeologists announced they have discovered the remains of the world's oldest shipwreck, a wooden cargo vessel they estimated sank off the coast of Turkey nearly 5,000 years ago. Hakan Öniz, who led the underwater excavation, said the shipwreck dates back to when the Great Pyramid of Giza was being constructed. Among the artifacts recovered from the ship, estimated to be around 30 feet long, were ceramic storage pots and clay containers that may have been used to transport olive oil and wine, Mehmet Nuri Ersoy, the Turkish minister of culture and tourism, said in a social media post on Wednesday. An archeologist excavates the remains of what is believed to be the world's shipwreck as a ceramic container from the vessel that sank off the coast of Turkey nearly 5,000 years ago. Dr. Hakan ÖnizErsoy said one of the amphoras, or containers, recovered featured nine different markings and two holes in its body and may have been used to churn cheese or butter. Ersoy said the discovery could shed light on the history of the maritime trade along the Anatolian coasts.

Meloni says Trump’s 'risky' Russian diesel deal legitimises Moscow - Euronews.com

The Trump-Putin deal on the purchase of Russian diesel “is a very risky choice” and “a legitimisation for Moscow while its bombs are still falling on Ukrainian cities”, Giorgia Meloni said in Rome on Wednesday, swiftly winning Kyiv’s approval and provoking a prickly response from Russia. The Italian prime minister, speaking in Parliament before heading to Brussels for Thursday and Friday’s European Council, warned of an “implicit weakening of the sanctions lever”, which she said runs counter to what has so far been done, including by the United States, “to push Putin to sit down at the negotiating table”.

Volodymyr Zelenskyy feels ‘betrayed’ by Donald Trump over Starlink access - The Guardian

Volodymyr Zelenskyy has said he feels personally betrayed by Donald Trump after it emerged that Ukraine’s military has had its access to Elon Musk’s Starlink satellite squeezed, raising doubts about long-term US support for Kyiv. The Ukrainian president, on a visit to London, accused Trump of picking the other side after more than four years of war, risking a breakdown in relations already strained by the US agreeing to buy diesel from Moscow. Ahead of a meeting with prime minister Andy Burnham in Downing Street, Zelenskyy appeared in a TV interview where he was asked whether the sudden restriction of Starlink was deliberate and if he felt betrayed by Trump. “Really, yes … but it’s a little bit more complicated than just my emotions or my feelings,” the Ukrainian president replied, adding: “It’s a pity that we are losing, we are losing a strong partner.”Overnight, Ukraine’s military reported that, without explanation, the Starlink satellite communications system, produced by Musk’s SpaceX but managed by the US government, was no longer working at speeds greater than 100mph.

Patrick Reed: American reassures former LIV Golf colleagues - 'DP World Tour welcomed me in after I left breakaway league' - Sky Sports

Race to Dubai leader Patrick Reed offered some reassurance to former LIV Golf colleagues considering their futures by insisting he has been welcomed by the DP World Tour. New rules will require all members of the former European Tour to state explicitly that they will not be signing up for the proposed LIV 2.0 relaunch after the original format applied for Chapter 11 bankruptcy. The PGA Tour's year-long suspension policy means the DP World Tour has offered a safe haven, with Reed signing up after his contract expired in January.
