Dear Media and Amanda Hirsch Want Brands To Ditch the Script - ADWEEK

For podcast host Amanda Hirsch, the best brand partnerships start before a deal is ever signed. Hirsch, who hosts Not Skinny But Not Fat, will even accept a lower fee from a brand she already uses, she told ADWEEK chief content officer Zoe Ruderman at ADWEEK’s Advertising HQ event. Hirsch runs every potential partner through a few filters: whether she’s an organic fan, whether she has tried the product herself, and whether her audience would find it genuinely useful. Turning down a deal is not painful, she added, because she believes another opportunity will follow. “I’m thinking about my audience, like, ‘Wait, they would love this,’” Hirsch said. Aziz Ansari has been doing stand-up for 25 years. He calls his Hypothetical Tour his best yet - Los Angeles Times

Aziz Ansari has been thinking about the fact that he has been on the road for a long time. Long in two ways, he adds. “I’ve been doing stand-up for 25 years, although when I say that, it doesn’t even sound right,” he says by phone from an airport in Australia, where his Hypothetical Tour recently took him. (He will record this as a Netflix special later this month.)But Ansari, who was preparing to fly to Los Angeles for a show at the Dolby Theatre on Wednesday, has also been feeling the effect of this current tour, which actually started 20 months ago, although it was paused twice — once for publicity for “Good Fortune,” his feature film directorial debut, and once to prepare for another film that didn’t end up happening. At 43, the former “Parks and Recreation” star and “Master of None” co-creator still loves stand-up — more than TV, more than movies — but he finds touring “really exhausting.”“I can’t run around the way I used to when I was younger,” he says. “I just don’t have the same energy.

100 gallons of water and fake blood: Behind the scenes of that epic rumble in 'The Outsiders' - Los Angeles Times

They say it’s always sunny in Los Angeles, but inside the Hollywood Pantages Theatre, you can count on it to pour eight shows a week. That’s thanks to a climactic moment in “The Outsiders” musical in which real water falls from the rafters as teen gangs brawl in a fight filled with rain, mud and stage blood. Staging that key three minutes of the show’s meticulously choreographed, highly anticipated climax, is a technical feat involving more than 100 gallons of water and unwavering physical acumen on the part of the cast. “We are really careful with each other in a really great way,” says Rick Kuperman who choreographed the show with his brother Jeff Kuperman, adding that the rumble is “not more or less dangerous than any of the things that happen on a Broadway stage. It’s choreographed within an inch of its life — it has to be with that many bodies and that much traffic and activity.”While “The Outsiders,” may feature two warring teen gangs, it’s all love an hour before the curtain rises on the L. A.-premiere stop of the national tour.

And the Emmy Awards go to Amazon Prime Video - Los Angeles Times

Breaking with more than 70 years of tradition, the Emmy Awards show will move to Amazon Prime Video from broadcast TV beginning next year. The Television Academy on Tuesday announced a six-year deal with Amazon, which becomes the centerpiece of a push by the North Hollywood-based organization to broaden the reach and relevance of the TV industry’s annual awards gala. Amazon has agreed to promote the show to its millions of international subscribers and also make it available for free to non-Prime Video customers. The move was expected. “Our ambition here is to make this a global event that celebrates the biggest stars on television around the world,” Mike Hopkins, head of Prime Video and Amazon MGM Studios, said in an interview. “This is a six-year deal, and we hope it’ll be much longer than that.”Financial terms were not disclosed. Amazon agreed to pay at least $15 million a year for the rights, according to a person familiar with the deal terms but not authorized to comment. The academy’s exclusive partnership with Amazon replaces the “wheel deal” — a rotation among ABC, CBS, NBC and Fox, which have taken turns each year since the mid-1990s to host the event.
