Cysic crypto bridge halted after unauthorized mint of 10M CYS

Cysic Foundation is investigating an unauthorized issuance on BNB Smart Chain and said the mint size alone does not establish the incident’s dollar impact. The foundation said in a Sunday X incident report that its cross-chain bridge was suspended after an attacker exploited a processing flaw to mint 10 million CYS on BNB Smart Chain on Saturday, with preliminary findings pointing to unauthorized access to a database supporting the bridge. The mint occurred at 12:31:38 UTC on Oct. 17, and Cysic added the recipient address to the token contract’s blacklist at 13:47:52 UTC. About 2.8 million CYS remained at that address, with transfers restricted. There are roughly 160.8 million tokens in circulation, according to CoinMarketCap data. CYS coordinates incentives for users, compute providers, governance participants and contributors in Cysic’s network, according to the project’s tokenomics documentation. Cysic said the incident was limited to bridge message processing and minting and did not affect the mainnet or other operational systems. “The incident did not result in the theft or unauthorized transfer of existing CYS or other assets held in user wallets,” it said.

Chinese suspect in $75M international crime network arrested in Bangkok

Thai police arrested a 37-year-old Chinese man wanted by authorities in China for alleged involvement in an international crime network and money laundering. Investigators said the network handled more than 500 million yuan ($75 million) in transactions, Thai media Khaosod English reported in a post on X on Saturday. Police alleged the suspect was involved in cryptocurrency and foreign-currency exchanges for criminal groups across more than 133 accounts. They also claimed that he was involved in arranging visas for members of international crime groups linked to other money-laundering cases. Investigators said he attempted to evade arrest by using forged documents to report his residence and changing vehicle registration plates before police found him in a luxury house in Bangkok. His Thai visa had expired more than three years ago, so he will face legal proceedings before authorities coordinate his return to China to face the outstanding warrant.
