FOXBOROUGH — The MLS postseason does not start for another month, but a playoff atmosphere prevailed for the Revolution’s 1-0 win over the Chicago Fire on Saturday night. Intensity ratcheted up a notch, and the announced crowd of 34,506 got into the spirit. Matt Polster scored off a Peyton Miller-Carles Gil combination in the 26th minute, and the Fire threatened via Robert Lewandowski and Philip Zinckernagel. But the most inspired play was defensive — blocked shots, saves, tackles. And that turned out to be a Revolution strength, thanks to keeper Matt Turner and a young back line anchored by 21-year-old central defenders Ethan Kohler and Joshua Wynder. The Revolution (16-10-4, 52 points) increased their lead over the Fire to 4 points in the race for third place in the Eastern Conference, and 5 points on fifth-place Charlotte FC. (The top four earn postseason home-field advantage.) They have four games remaining to catch Inter Miami (55 points) for second place, behind Nashville SC. First, the Revolution must get through the sixth-place Philadelphia Union in an away match Saturday, followed by Red Bull New York on Oct. 28, the regular-season home finale against Miami on Nov.

Trump golf course: DOJ official clashes with judge in DC golf course case after Trump attacks her

A contentious hearing is underway in Washington, D. C., where lawyers for the Trump administration are facing off with a federal judge pushing for answers over whether she was deliberately misled by the government over why it removed hundreds of trees from a local public golf course. D. C. District Judge Ana Reyes has ordered testimony from Interior Department official Gregory Wischer and acting Director of the National Park Service Jessica Bowron over why the government moved abruptly on Columbus Day weekend to remove more than 500 trees from East Potomac golf course without giving her proper advance notice. Last week, Reyes erupted at attorneys for the government after the trees were removed despite her demanding the administration alert her in advance if it planned any significant alterations to the course given ongoing litigation. The golf course has been the subject of litigation brought by the D. C. Preservation League in response to President Donald Trump's efforts to turn it into a course that could host professional tournaments.
