I’m still not sure how the Patriots’ coaching staff — and Maye himself — made the necessary repairs so fast, but his bizarre early-season woes can officially be declared old news. Maye was 18 of 32 for 235 yards, with three touchdowns and no turnovers on Sunday. It wasn’t spectacular, but the degree of difficulty was higher because of the chaos around him, and he stood in and delivered exactly what was needed. Enter EmailMaye did force it to Brown on a couple of occasions — understandable given the receiver’s ability and stature — and he did have a Favre-ian flip of the football in the second quarter that was awfully close to being a fumble. But over the last three games — all Patriots wins — he’s thrown 10 touchdown passes with just one interception. He’s both settled down and leveled up, and it’s fair to declare that the first concerning three weeks were the outlier, and not his near-MVP performance last season. Drake Maye is all the way back. Phew. Some further thoughts, upon immediate review …

Same draft class, stellar play keep Drake Maye and Caleb Williams connected

That’s how it works when enticing prospects commence their NFL careers as high draft picks in the same year. They’re praised and picked apart during the absurdly prolonged buildup to the NFL Draft, which starts the engine for that either/or, are-we-sure-he’s-better-than-him debate. Thursday night, in their second career meeting and first in prime time, Williams and the Bears emerged victorious over Maye and the Patriots, 30-24. Both surpassed 300 yards passing. Both had stellar, and sometimes breathtaking, moments. Caleb Williams's 308 passing yards were spread among just five receivers. Danielle Parhizkaran/Globe StaffWilliams completed 22 of 33 passes for 308 yards and two touchdowns. He connected with Luther Burden III for four receptions for 130 yards and a touchdown in the first half alone. His first-quarter 58-yarder with Burden, which set up a D’Andre Swift 4-yard rushing touchdown to give the Bears a 10-0 lead, accounted for more passing yards than Maye had in the entire opening quarter (51). Early voting begins Saturday as Hochul, Blakeman make final push in race for NY governor

POLITICSFriday, October 23, 2026 8:45AMStream New York's #1 news - AccuWeather - original content 24/7NEW YORK (WABC) -- New Yorkers can start casting ballots Saturday as early voting begins in the race for governor. Both candidates are making campaign stops ahead of voting. On Friday, Gov. Kathy Hochul and Mayor Zohran Mamdani are expected to make their first joint campaign appearance in Brooklyn. The two were in the Bronx earlier this week for a childcare announcement, and Hochul is highlighting their partnership as part of her campaign message. "As New York's first mom and grandmother governor, childcare is personal to me. That's why I'm proud to work alongside Zohran Mamdani to bring New York one step closer to universal childcare," Hochul said in a social media video. Meanwhile, Republican challenger Bruce Blakeman says he's not concerned about Hochul appearing alongside the mayor. In fact, he says the partnership helps his campaign by reminding voters that the governor is aligned with a self-described democratic socialist mayor.

Tightening local budgets point to tough post-election decisions - Franklin Observer

The Pilgrim Monument is part of the historic district in Provincetown, a town where local control desires and state government realities sometimes collide. Sen. Julian Cyr of Provincetown said his district sends more home rule requests before the Legislature than any other part of the state. (Ruth H Curtis on Unsplash) On issue after issue, Democrats who control the Legislature are publicly apoplectic about the sharp shift in values and governing approaches under complete Republican control at the federal level. Though they are more circumspect about it, municipal officials in Massachusetts are also feeling disempowered by their state partners while the vise of property tax restrictions, swelling inflation and budgets, and limited increases in local aid is tightening on cities and towns.

Rescuers search for survivors after deadly earthquake in China’s Tibet region

BEIJING (AP) — Rescuers combed through a remote area in the Chinese region of Tibet on Friday after a magnitude 7 earthquake that killed at least 16 people, injuring 54 and collapsing hundreds of homes, according to Chinese state media. The disaster struck Nagqu, a city north of Tibet’s capital Lhasa that’s some 4,800 meters (5,249 yards) above sea level, on Thursday. At least 339 homes collapsed, and officials told journalists they were concerned about further building collapses from aftershocks, as well as casualties from rockslides. Search and rescue efforts are complicated by the geography and low temperatures, officials said. As of Friday afternoon, rescuers had done three rounds of searches, going through each household, and each village, said Dunzhu, the acting mayor of Nagqu city, said in a press conference. More than 5,000 people from three local counties were deployed for rescue efforts. Supplies including 2,000 prefabricated housing units, around 3,400 tents and 2,000 folding beds, as well as flashlights and winter clothing arrived in the region. The U. S. Geological Survey said the quake occurred at 10:33 p.m.
