HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) -- It's not unusual to see the Westfield High School senior defensive leaders all together; they've been doing it since they were kids. "Since we were young, like half of the team, we all played together in Little League; we went to the same elementary school," senior Jordin Jones said. "Me and a lot of these guys have been playing since we were 5 years old," senior Davon Smith said. "When I first started playing football, I'd say like fourth or fifth grade, these are the guys I started with," senior Jaylen Oliver said. "Our chemistry is so tight it's like a brotherhood on this team. "The Mustangs have one of the best defenses in the Houston area. "We cause a lot of havoc when it comes to that time," senior Antonio Underwood said. "We're good guys off the field, but when we come on the field we cause a lot of havoc. "That havoc comes from everybody and everywhere. "We're chasing the ball, 11 hats every play," senior Logan Draper said. "Chasing the ball, we have to get the ball every play. "Senior defensive back Kaden Jacobs added, "Front 7 putting pressure on the quarterback, making it hard for the quarterback to throw the ball.

Westfield Planning Board denies permit extension for hyperscale data center project
A proposed hyperscale data center project in Westfield is no more, after the city's planning board Tuesday refused to give the developer an extension on their special permit, which expires at the end of October. Members of the board verbally sparred with Paul Corey, a representative of developer Servistar Realties, over the course of a tense two-hour long special meeting. Servistar has been trying to get a more than 150-acre data center campus off the ground in Westfield since 2019. Planning board members were primarily concerned with the lack of progress on the project since they initially approved permits five years ago, in 2021. Since then, Servistar had begun negotiations with local utility company Westfield Gas & Electric over energy supply, and brought in environmental surveyors to perform wetland delineation on the proposed property. But the developer never actually purchased any of the land they planned to build on. That was a sticking point for planning board chair William Carellas. "I look at what you're selling and I look at what we provided, and we provided you all the tools to make this shovel-ready," Carellas said. "Last time I knew you guys haven't bought land yet.

The two fastest boys’ cross-country runners in the state are teammates at Billerica
The two runners each broke the school 5K record of 15 minutes, 29 seconds that night, previously held by Ryan Leslie (‘22). In the back of their minds Gandhi and Niles knew it was within reach, and it was more special that they were able to break it together. Barry ChinEarly on, Niles’s favorite sport was soccer. But when his mother encouraged him to try cross-country, he gravitated toward running. He found early success as an eighth grader, finishing 22nd at the Division 1C championship (17:11.9). He won the meet as a freshman (16:19.4). “We recognized his talent right away,” said 10-year coach Sydney Fitzpatrick, who once ran for Billerica.

Mitchell Robinson to face former Knicks teammates as he and Celtics seek to bounce back from opener
When Mitchell Robinson was a rookie second-round draft pick with the Knicks in 2018-19, the experience was not particularly pleasant. The 20-year-old center played about 20 minutes per game for New York, which stumbled through a league-worst 17-65 campaign. So last season, which ended with the Knicks’ first championship since 1973, was gratifying for Robinson, the team’s longest tenured player. He had seen the worst and waited eight years to experience the best. When the Knicks visit the Celtics on Friday night, Robinson will play against New York for the first time in his career. He’ll look to the opposite bench and see many of the same teammates with whom he sprayed champagne just four months ago. But Robinson, who signed a three-year, $47.4 million deal with Boston in July, was in no mood to be sentimental Thursday. “It don’t really matter that I’m playing my former team,” he said with a shrug. “It’s more so just trying to bounce back from what happened two nights ago [in the loss to the Pistons].
