The Ukrainian military has released footage of what it says is the world's first drone airlift of a wounded soldier from the front line. The 92nd Assault Brigade said a ground rescue mission was not possible as the wounded serviceman was surrounded by landmines and there was high Russian drone activity in the area. It says a "heavy" hexacopter, piloted by a remote operator, was able to maintain stability during the "very difficult" operation. BBC Verify has confirmed the identity of the army personnel involved in the video, and found no signs of AI generation or manipulation.3 days ago

Teacher wounded in Oregon school shooting played dead after she was shot - The Guardian
A teacher wounded in last week’s shooting at a Bend, Oregon, elementary school shared her account of the incident, and how she was shot before she could intervene and “[pretended] to be dead”. Becky Drury was seriously wounded at Silver Rail elementary when Griffin J John II, a 16-year-old former student at the school armed with a shotgun, broke in and headed toward a special education classroom. He shot six people, killing Megan Lambert, a 25-year-old teacher, and three children, including five-year-old Rhoam Summer. Drury and Saylor Graham, a seven-year-old student, were also shot. Another teacher threw her phone at John and tackled him before a parent fatally shot the teen gunman. Drury, who is still hospitalized, released a statement on Wednesday. “Here is what I remember: Once I realized something was happening outside, I ran to see what was going on. I then saw the shooter and immediately ran back into the classroom. I turned to shut the door behind me, but the shooter was already there. Before I could do anything more, he shot me at close range and I fell to the ground,” Drury said.

Massive student-led rally marches in Belgrade ahead of Serbian election - The Guardian
About 150,000 supporters of Serbia’s opposition student movement rallied in central Belgrade on Thursday, seeking to oust the party of veteran leader Aleksandar Vucic in crunch parliamentary elections this weekend. The Student List, a leaderless movement of student-backed candidates, wants to end more than 14 years of rule by Vucic’s rightwing populist Serbian Progressive party (SNS) in Sunday’s vote. Civil society groups have said the campaign has been marred by intimidation, arrests and misuse of public resources. “I came to support the Student List because young people finally gave me hope that it is possible to live in a normal country,” Marija Nedeljkovic Radic, 47, said as she arrived for the students’ rally. “Really, for the first time in my life, I believe that it is possible.”Crowds streamed into Belgrade’s central Slavija Square from all directions, also filling several blocks of streets around the area.
