Woman shot by NYPD officers responding to stabbing at home in Queens
ByEyewitness News Saturday, October 24, 2026 10:44AMSeveral people also suffered stab wounds during the chaotic incident in South Ozone Park. WABCSOUTH OZONE PARK, Queens (WABC) -- An investigation is underway Saturday morning after a woman was shot by police during a chaotic situation in Queens. Police say they received multiple 911 calls about a break-in and stabbing at a home on 149th Street in South Ozone Park. When police arrived, they say they tried knocking on the door but no one answered. They said moments later a man shouted from a second floor window that he was stabbed by his uncle. Then a woman opened a window on the third floor and tossed her keys to police. Officers went inside to the third floor and that's where they said they encountered a woman and two men struggling. They separated as police told them to put their hands up. "The female pointed with her left hand at one of the males across the room but did not raise her right hand, the officers continued to issue the same verbal commands, the female still did not comply and moved in the direction of the officers with a knife in her hand," said NYPD Chief of Patrol Philip Rivera.

Ukraine and Russia eye new peace talks led by Melania Trump. But steep obstacles remain.
Peace talks likely in mid-NovemberU. S. presidential envoy Steve Witkoff secured the latest commitment to talks after shuttling between Oslo, Norway, and St. Petersburg, Russia, this week to meet Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Putin. A new round of negotiations would be the fourth brokered by the Trump administration, following the most recent round in Geneva in February. A Kremlin spokesman said that the next round of talks is likely to be held in Abu Dhabi, the capital of the United Arab Emirates, around mid-November. Western governments backing the peace initiative are seeking a new formula to break the impasse while acknowledging that territorial and security questions remain unresolved. U. S. President Donald Trump’s ties with Zelenskyy, meanwhile, have sunk to a new low. Moscow has been bolstered by Trump’s deal for Russia to supply the U. S. with diesel and his recent rejection of new Russia sanctions. Kyiv has been undermined by disruptions in satellite support for its drones after rejecting a call by the U. S. president to halt strikes on Russian oil infrastructure.
