Doctors Found Dozens of Needles Hidden in a Man's Body – Including One in His Heart - ScienceAlert
A puncture to the heart may be shockingly insidious. Doctors in China have shared an extremely rare case in which they found a 36-millimeter-long sewing needle stuck into the left ventricle of a person's heart. The patient was a 35-year-old man with an intellectual disability who was experiencing painful urination and blood in the urine. When he came to the hospital seeking treatment, however, his vital signs were in a healthy range. Somehow, his cardiovascular system was still functioning. When doctors imaged his chest, they noticed a peculiar shadow over his heart. Chest X-ray demonstrating a linear metallic high-density shadow projected over the precordial region (red arrow). (Ren et al., BMC Cardiovascular Disorders, 2026)A further CT scan of the chest, abdomen, and pelvis revealed several metallic foreign bodies within the patient's body. They were in his abdominal wall, pelvis, bladder wall and lumen, hip bone, hip muscle, and penis. One particularly threatening needle, measuring 36 mm (1.4 inches), had punctured the fluid-filled sac around the patient's heart. Its sharp tip extended quite far into the left ventricular cavity.
