⋅ C. J. Stroud: He looked broken in last year’s playoff loss to the Patriots, with four interceptions. The Texans triggered Stroud’s fifth-year option for 2027, but 2026 is make or break for his long-term place in Houston. He has responded with nine touchdown passes and just one interception for a 100.9 passer rating. The Texans are just 2-4, but they have won two straight, and now get a soft stretch with the Giants, Chargers, Browns, and Colts. If Stroud keeps it up, he should be in line for a big contract next offseason, and offensive coordinator Nick Caley might get looks for head coaching jobs. Enter Email⋅ Bryce Young: This is a critical year for the other quarterback from the top of the 2023 draft, and it looks as if Young has played his way into the Panthers’ future. Young had never averaged even 200 yards per game in his first three seasons, yet now leads the NFL at 309, with 11 touchdowns and two interceptions for the 3-2 Panthers.⋅ Drake Maye: Three weeks ago, Maye would have appeared on the other list.

A dead bishop’s behavior is back in the spotlight
Fast forward to today, and Gelineau, who died two years ago, is in no position to defend himself from new allegations by a 56-year-old Newport man who filed a lawsuit alleging Gelineau raped him when he was an altar boy at St. Luke’s Church in Barrington in the 1980s. If, to Gelineau’s defenders, the behavior alleged in the lawsuit seems completely out of character, there are people in Vermont who would beg to differ. Gelineau was born and grew up in Burlington, near Lake Champlain, and it was on the shore of that lake in the early 1950s that a boy living in an orphanage alleged the then seminarian tried to molest him. At the time, Gelineau said in a 1997 deposition connected to a lawsuit filed against the diocese of Providence, he was studying for the priesthood and worked summers at St. Joseph’s Orphanage on the banks of Lake Champlain overseeing the recreation of boys. In a separate 1997 deposition, a man named Robert Cadorette who sued the diocese of Burlington said he was 11 or 12 years old and a resident of the orphanage when Gelineau led him down a hill and away from where other boys were playing basketball. Once alone, Cadorette said, Gelineau began to undo the boy’s zipper

Sharks at Bruins preview: Boston looks to keep up momentum against familiar opponent
The Bruins are riding a seven-game point streak into Saturday’s clash with the Sharks at TD Garden. Boston returned home Thursday from a four-game road trip and showed no signs of lingering effects, rolling to a 6-0 victory over the Predators behind a 28-save shutout from backup goalie Michael DiPietro. “What I liked about most, other than Mikey’s shutout, is that we came out with energy,” said Bruins coach Marco Sturm. Saturday’s meeting will complete the two-game season series, after the Bruins earned a 6-3 win in San Jose on Oct. 13. In that victory, Fraser Minten led the team with two goals and 13 Boston skaters registered at least one point. The Sharks arrive on a two-game winning streak, having scored a season-high six goals in Thursday’s road triumph against the Senators. Former Boston University star Macklin Celebrini, San Jose’s 20-year-old captain, leads the team with five goals and 14 points. In five career games against the Bruins, he has logged two goals and five assists. Get Sports AlertsThe latest sports news and Globe's most interesting reporting and commentary right to your inbox.
