Photo credit : A montage of eight paintings showing the faces of nine children who died in the Aberfan disaster

Site search6 hours agoHuw Thomas, Correspondent, BBC Wales , Tony BrownandDani ThomasFor almost 60 years, many of Aberfan's lost children have watched over living rooms, hallways and family gatherings across the village. Some were painted from faded school photographs. Others were shaped by the memories of grieving parents, who wrote letters to an artist describing the children they had lost: the colour of their eyes, their favourite clothes, the flashes of personality that made them unique. The portraits arrived in the years after one of Wales' darkest days. And for many families, they became far more than paintings. "It brought her back to life," said Denise Morgan, whose younger sister Annette was among those who died in the Aberfan disaster. On 21 October 1966, a coal tip collapsed above the village. The torrent of slurry engulfed Pantglas Junior School and nearby homes, killing 144 people including 116 children. The disaster remains woven into everyday life in Aberfan. It is felt most strongly in the memorial garden on the site of the fallen school, and among the white arched monuments of the cemetery.

Kylie Jenner Debuts on the Victoria’s Secret Runway in its $50 Million Fantasy Bra - Vogue

For the return of Victoria’s Secret’s pricey and gemstone-encrusted Fantasy Bra—the first time the brand has put it on its runway since 2018—team VS needed a model who is not merely of the moment, but transcends it. They got just that with Kylie Jenner, the reality TV star-turned-beauty entrepreneur, who, with 380 million followers on Instagram, is one of the most popular personalities on the platform. Jenner, 29, stepped out onto the catwalk wearing a gauzy mini skirt, clear heels, and white feathered wings—but it was ultimately the Fantasy Bra that was the center of attention. To mark its grand return, the brand pulled out all the stops with the bra itself, revealing a design that features 4,410 natural diamonds surrounding a 75.54-carat radiant-cut Fancy Vivid yellow diamond. It took 15 craftspeople more than 1,000 hours to build it, and the finished product weighs just under four pounds. The total cost? A whopping $50 million, the highest price (by some $35 million) for a Fantasy Bra to date. “A big idea for the show was fandomonium,” says Adam Selman, chief creative officer at Victoria’s Secret.
