Tesla’s New Roadster Is Running A Banned Formula 1 Trick From 1978 - DMARGE

Tesla finally unveiled the new Roadster last Thursday, nine years after Elon Musk first promised it and a year after he teased tech crazier than anything in a Bond film. Naturally, the internet lost its mind over the bit where it flies, with the single-seat Rocket version launching off a curved ramp at SpaceX’s test facility in McGregor, Texas, climbing roughly six metres into the air, rotating, and landing on its wheels using cold-gas thrusters borrowed from SpaceX. It’s a great party trick, but the more interesting piece of engineering is hiding underneath the car, and it’s a lot older than Musk would probably like to admit. Tesla calls it the Multi-Mode Suction System. Impellers pull air out from beneath the car and seal it to the road, generating downforce even when the Roadster is sitting still. That’s how Tesla was able to drive it upside down on stage, and it’s why the company is claiming up to 2 g of cornering grip. Anyone who grew up reading old copies of Motor Sport will recognise the idea immediately. It’s a fan car, and the most famous fan car of all time is the Brabham BT46B. Signs of Psychopathy Can Show Up in a Person's Writing - ScienceAlert

Psychopathy is not listed in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, and it's not an official diagnosis any psychiatrist or psychologist will give. But the term is still widely used, especially in criminology, to describe a problematic cluster of personality traits. The triarchic model says psychopathic personalities have three key features: boldness, disinhibition, and meanness. A new study from clinical psychology researchers Ky Bray and Laura Drislane, both of the University of Mississippi, shows these traits can show up in people's writing, in ways that don't always fit with our stereotype of a 'psychopath'. Their results are published in the journal Personality and Individual Differences. "People tend to think of psychopathy as one thing, but it's actually multidimensional," Bray says. Everyone exhibits these traits to some degree. It's when they appear together, at high levels across the board, that things can get dark. "That's in part why there's a movement away from calling people 'psychopaths,' because we don't view psychopathy as a category," says Drislane.

Home sellers cut asking prices on 3,000 properties a day, says Rightmove - BBC

Home sellers cut asking prices on more than 3,000 properties a day on average in Britain during September, according to figures from Rightmove shared exclusively with the BBC. The property website said the total was the highest of any month for 15 years and was driven, in part, by a glut of homes on the market and some sellers setting unrealistic expectations. The proportion of listed homes that eventually had a price cut peaked in 2023 and has remained relatively high since. Property portals say buyers are now having to be choosy, with many working to a tight budget as mortgage rates have risen to three-year highs. "Once a home has been on the market for a while and then has a price reduction, some buyers start asking questions, even when there is nothing wrong with the property," said Colleen Babcock of Rightmove. "In a market with so much choice, first impressions matter. "Rightmove data said the average price reduction was nearly 7% - the equivalent of nearly £21,000 cut from a typically valued home. Its data showed that homes that had a price reduction typically took 119 days to find a buyer, compared with 39 days for those listed at one price.

Record Shipping Costs Force Oil Producers to Slash Prices - Crude Oil Prices Today | OilPrice.com

Soaring freight is forcing oil producers into discounts, pushing delivered prices towards $140/bbl in China and prompting producers to absorb more transport costs to secure buyers. India is attracting more Brazilian and West African barrels as shorter voyages improve sellers’ returns, while Chinese refiners hold out for cheaper deliveries.
