Connor Hellebuyck trade talks escalating with Winnipeg Jets, potential deal could come Friday - TSN

The Connor Hellebuyck saga could be about to end in Winnipeg. TSN Hockey Insider Darren Dreger reports trade talks are escalating with the Winnipeg Jets and a deal could take place as soon as Friday. It remains unclear where Hellebuyck will land when his trade request is honoured. TSN Hockey Insider Pierre LeBrun has previously listed the Carolina Hurricanes, Buffalo Sabres and Utah Mammoth as possible suitors. A trade would months of speculation about the netminder’s future after he initially expressed frustrations with the team’s direction in April and formally requested a trade over the summer. That turned into an unpaid suspension when Hellebuyck did not report to training camp last month. It could also come on the same day Hellebuyck’s suspension was set to end. It was revealed last week that the netminder informed the Jets he planned to report ahead of their opening game and was then given a three-week disciplinary suspension for skipping camp. The development also arrives after it was speculated Thursday that things could go on hold until after the weekend to allow the Jets to keep their focus on Saturday’s Heritage Classic against the Montreal Canadiens.

World and Olympic marathon champion Jepchirchir suspended after positive doping test - The Guardian

In a fresh hammer blow for Kenyan athletics, world marathon champion Peres Jepchirchir has been provisionally suspended for doping, the Athletics Integrity Unit announced on Friday. The highly-decorated 33-year-old Kenyan, who won Olympic gold in the Covid-delayed Tokyo Games in 2021, was suspended after an out-of-competition sample tested positive for banned blood booster EPO. The athlete is provisionally suspended while the case is investigated, while the AIU said Jepchirchir’s out-of-competition sample had been collected in Kenya prior to her recent Sydney Marathon victory. More than 140 Kenyan athletes, including current women’s marathon world record-holder Ruth Chepngetich, have been suspended or banned by the AIU since 2017. Jepchirchir’s lauded career includes a world record in the half-marathon while she is a four-time World Marathon Major winner, having captured the Sydney Marathon (2026), the London Marathon (2024), the Boston Marathon (2022) and the New York Marathon (2021). The decision of World Athletics to award Nairobi the 2029 world championships is likely to increase the scrutiny of the east African nation’s anti-doping policies.

Molly Carlson’s Daring Red Bull Iceberg Backflip Released in Video - VOCM

It gained a lot of attention when it was recorded back in June – now video of Canadian high diver and social media personality Molly Carlson diving off an iceberg grounded near Twillingate has been released. Carlson is an overall runner-up in the Red Bull Cliff Diving World Series – and she became the first woman in history to dive from a freestanding iceberg.  She trained ahead of time by learning how to ice-climb. Molly Carlson surveying the iceberg she is about to dive from (Red Bull)The highly-organized event gained a lot of attention and concern in this province, where people are only too aware of the dangers of approaching – or climbing on top of – an iceberg. Huge chunks of ice that calved from Greenland glaciers pass by the east coast of Newfoundland and Labrador each spring and early summer. While they attract a lot of interest and are a huge tourist draw, they are highly unstable and unpredictable as they melt and break apart. Carlson admitted the danger involved in a video released by Red Bull.

Peres Jepchirchir: Women's world marathon provisionally suspended for doping - BBC

Olympic and World Championships marathon gold medallist Peres Jepchirchir has been provisionally suspended by the Athletics Integrity Unit after an out-of-competition sample tested positive for EPO. Kenyan Jepchirchir provided the sample prior to winning the Sydney Marathon on 30 August 2026. The 33-year-old clocked a time of two hours, 18 minutes and 31 seconds to win in Sydney. EPO, or erythropoietin, is a natural substance produced within the kidneys that stimulates the creation of new red blood cells. If injected, it is only detectable in the urine or blood for a short window of time, and increases the amount of red blood cells, which carry oxygen to the muscles, in the blood stream. Jepchirchir became the Olympic women's marathon champion at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics and returned to the Japanese capital to win the World Championships in September 2025. She broke the women's half-marathon world record in 2017 and on three occasions in 2020. In addition to Sydney, her other major wins came at the New York Marathon in 2021, the Boston Marathon in 2022 and the London Marathon in 2024.
