2027 Subaru Outback Gets New Base Trim That's $2,000 Cheaper And Still Includes Heated Seats
Truly cheap cars are all but gone from the new car market in the United States, which rather inconveniently coincides with an affordability crisis in virtually every other sector. I'm not going to suggest that a $35,000 purchase is especially affordable for the vast majority of us proletariats at the moment, but it does represent a good deal on a desirable midsize crossover. Subaru just announced pricing for the 2027 Outback, and it starts out nearly $2,000 cheaper than last year at $34,540 thanks to a new base trim level. Other Outback trim levels are cheaper too, so Subaru is really looking out for us poor folk — it even reintroduced the base trim of its spunky WRX this year, which I was lucky enough to drive all over the UK this summer. The Outback's new base model is no stripper, though, with Subaru's legendary all-wheel-drive system, heavy duty roof rails, heated front seats and side mirrors, a windshield wiper de-icer, a power tailgate, 18-inch silver wheels, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, and Subaru's much-improved 12.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system all included as standard.

2027 Subaru Outback Gets New Base Model, Dropping Price by $1905
For 2027, Subaru has given the Outback a new base model that starts at $34,540, lowering the entry price for the mid-size SUV by $1905. Several other trims also get price cuts, with the Touring now $1805 less than in 2026 and the Limited’s price dropping by $1625. The Outback also adds three new colors: Daybreak Blue Pearl, Snowfall White Silica, and Sand Dune Pearl, with that last one exclusive to the Wilderness model. The Subaru Outback entered its seventh generation for the 2026 model year, but the new, boxier model has failed to maintain the sales of its predecessor. Through the third quarter, the Outback has found 104,759 buyers, down 10 percent year over year. But Subaru may have a way to get more Outbacks into the hands of customers. The automaker today announced pricing for the 2027 Outback, and a new base model drops the entry point by $1905 versus 2026, with a starting price of $34,540. The new Outback base model comes exclusively with the 180-hp 2.5-liter flat-four, hooked up to a continuously variable automatic transmission and all-wheel drive.

The 2027 Subaru Outback Is Cheaper Across the Board
The 2027 Subaru Outback is set to arrive in the U. S. later this year, and in a welcome change from what usually happens in the rollover to a new model year prospective buyers may actually see a discount compared with 2026 units on the lot. The new model year expands the lineup with a new base model—and drops sticker prices on almost every trim level. The new 2027 Subaru Outback base model will feature a naturally aspirated 2.5-liter flat-four engine with 180 horsepower, a 12.1-inch infotainment display, and black Tricot cloth upholstery inside. Most importantly, Subaru will offer the base model Outback at an MSRP of $34,540. That’s $1905 less than the most affordable 2026 Outback. DAVID MASEMOREOutback Premium models will stay the course with a sticker price of $36,540 for 2027, while Outback Limited models will start at $41,540—a $1720 discount for a vehicle with leather seats, a 12-speaker Harman Kardon speaker system, and heated rear seats. Premium Outback Touring units will receive a $1900 discount, for an MSRP of $45,040. Turbocharging still costs you in Subaru’s pricing scheme, but even the more powerful models will receive a discount for 2027.
