Subaru unveiled an all-new in-house electric vehicle platform to the media over the weekend, according to Automotive News—one that comes packing a very exciting 500-plus horsepower from its battery-powered all-wheel drive system. Toyota and Subaru have partnered on EV development for the last five-plus years, but Subaru is now prepared to go solo, according to the report. The new dedicated EV platform, along with a new battery, new electric motor technology, and a new integrated control unit, was revealed at Subaru’s test course north of Tokyo on Sunday. And a generous helping of performance is on the menu. SubaruThe current Subaru Uncharted, one of four EV SUVs it currently offers that are co-made with Toyota. Subaru told Automotive News that its prototype EV’s dual motors combine for a combined power output of around 510 horsepower and a 0-62 mile-per-hour sprint in under four seconds. The automaker declined to specify a timeline for production, but Subaru executives said the technology will start rolling out in 2029. The new platform is also around 220 pounds lighter than its current EV platform.

Genesis Just Built The Full-Size Luxury Wagon Mercedes And BMW Refuse To Sell
In the dying wagon and convertible markets, Genesis dares to patent new safety tech for its convertible concept that could come to market. The full-size luxury wagon has long been a body style that Europe's prestige brands acknowledge but refuse to fully commit to at the top of their lineups. Mercedes-Benz will sell you an E-Class wagon, and BMW will hand you the keys to an M5 Touring — but neither Stuttgart nor Munich has ever been willing to stretch their flagship sedans into long-roof territory. Now, Genesis is calling that bluff. The brand's G90 Wingback Concept takes the full-size G90 Sedan and gives it a sweeping roofline, a tailgate, and the full Magma performance treatment. It's still a concept — but it's the kind of concept that forces competitors to reconsider their assumptions.

6 Cheaper Alternatives To The Mercedes G-Wagon
The Mercedes-Benz G-Class is still one of the most luxurious off-road SUVs you can buy. It's also one of the most expensive, with the G550 starting at $153,900 (plus $1,150 in destination charges) and the price with options and AMG badges only going up from there. Still, the G-Wagon does stand out defiantly against the crossoverfication of the industry, with its upright boxiness remaining uncompromised from its launch in 1979 all the way up to today. It isn't just a look either. Underneath all the modern Mercedes-Benz luxury remains real ladder-frame off-road credibility, complete with a solid rear axle, mechanically locking differentials, and proper low range gearing. Fortunately, the G-Class doesn't have exclusive rights to the rolling brick aesthetic, and you can still get some portion of G-Wagon energy for less than a G-Wagon MSRP. From relative up-and-comers like the Ineos Grenadier or the Rivian R1S to historical direct competitors like the Land Rover Defender, you can absolutely capture some of that boxy magic without spending quite as much, and in some cases by spending $100,000 less.

Tested: 2027 Tesla Model Y L Reinvents the Station Wagon
10/16/26 UPDATE: This review has been updated with instrumented test results. When Tesla announced this April that it was nixing the Model X from its lineup, customers looking for a three-row electric were left wondering about their options. Sure, eventually we might all be carried in the arms of humanoid robots to our destinations, but in the meantime, how are we to get the kids to lacrosse? There is an option for a third-row seat in the Model Y, but it doesn’t offer much breathing room for passengers. To fill the gap left by the Model X, Tesla is bringing over a model that has already been available in most of Asia—the Model Y L. The L stands for Long, as in wheelbase. The Model Y L initially comes only in Premium Launch Series trim, which means a dual-motor, all-wheel-drive configuration that Tesla says makes 496 horsepower, accelerates to 60 mph in 4.4 seconds, and has an EPA-estimated range of 328 miles when outfitted with our test car’s 20-inch wheels. New wheels are cool, but the bigger body is the bigger news.

Maserati CEO Teases a New EV SUV and a Wagon-Like Crossover
Maserati and Stellantis executives have confirmed that the historic luxury brand isn’t disappearing anytime soon. Maserati is reportedly developing a new electric SUV and a shooting brake-style crossover, per a report from Auto Express. A thorough plan outlining Maserati’s future will reportedly be revealed this December in Modena, Italy. To revive a dwindling lineup, Maserati is reportedly preparing to revive the Levante as an EV SUV and reinvent the Quattroporte. Maserati has struggled for a while. Slipping sales, expensive import tariffs, and an uncertain future have weighed on the Italian brand. In recent years, rumors have circulated about Maserati getting kicked out from under the Stellantis umbrella, but Stellantis CEO Antonio Filosa told Bloomberg TV this week, as reported by Motor1, that Maserati isn’t getting the boot anytime soon. Andrew Trahan|Car and DriverHowever, to stay in the game, Maserati needs to roll out some big changes.
