I generally find it quite frustrating how limited the medium of games insists on being when it comes to engaging in a wide breadth of genres. One particular genre that its filmmaking cousin frequently utilises but is rarely seen within games is comedy. Sure, occasionally a game makes an attempt at telling a joke within a cutscene (failing more often than not (comedy's hard!)), but rarely is it a genre mechanically. So I'm quite pleased to learn of Send in the Clown, a turn-based RPG where you play as a clown that has to save a 12 year old's birthday party… and it only has one turn.

In Send in the Clown, you play as Pockets, a horrendously sad name for a clown. He has been hired to perform at Miranda's birthday party, except it's being ruined by her shitty brother Tad. Your goal, then, is to save the day by saving the party by, uh, fighting a child! That's Tad, to be clear. The problem is, Tad is a dirty trickster, and despite you being a literal adult, isn't easy to take down. Your solution to that is by trying to make friends with everyone and anyone at the party.

The creator of last year's cult hit RPG The Necromancer's Tale is back with The Lich Wars, a storybook RPG that follows 30 years of undead botheration

Psychic Software have announced The Lich Wars, a standalone prequel for their widely acclaimed RPG The Necromancer's Tale. Widely acclaimed by me, anyway. I'm pretty wide, these days – the local Morrisons keeps doing discounts on 80-biccy packets of bourbon creams. I liked The Necromancer's Tale specifically for how it wove a whole RPG around the narrative dynamics of a single RPG class, with players performing rituals in each chapter to develop their morbid spellcraft, while managing the suspicions of nearby townsfolk. I also really loved its choose-your-own-adventure prologue. The Lich Wars sort of spins the prologue out into a full game.

Ex-ZA/UM developers reveal Red Rooster, an "incendiary RPG" that is very intentionally not trying to be a "Disco Elysium successor" or "Disco-like"

Back in 2024, we heard about the formation of Summer Eternal: a new studio composed of Disco Elysium writer and world-builder, Argo Tuulik, and other veteran ZA/UM staff such as Dora Klindžić, Anastasia Ivanova, and Michael Oswell. Aleksandar Gavrilović, secretary of the Croatian Game Development Alliance, and Lenval Brown, Disco Elysium's narrator, are also part of the crew. Since then, we've heard nothing from the new collective, but earlier this month, the studio got in contact with me to gauge interest in the Summer Eternal Anthology, a 500-page physical book that's part-treatise on the cultural and labour impact of the video game industry, and part-development journal for its newly-announced "incendiary RPG", Red Rooster.

MrBeast Joins Shark Tank, Invests Quarter Million In AI-Powered ‘Ball 2’

James Stephen Donaldson, the algorithm ruling, product hustling, normal smile having YouTube superstar better known as MrBeast recently made his debut on Shark Tank. During his first episode on the show where celebrity investors put “idea people” through a humiliation ritual, Donaldson cut from the pack to back an AI-powered ball. It rolls. You can throw it. It’s, y’know, got AI in there. Donaldson opted to invest a quarter million into the product. Cousins Andrew Brown and Kevin Langdon presented the Sharks with “Ball 2.” A sequel to ball. Unlike your average foam ball, the second ball is “filled with sensors,” capable of tracking and harvesting data as it is rolled, thrown, bounced and so forth. Reporting information back to a companion app, Brown and Langdon added that through the magic of AI you can instruct the ball to create new games on the fly. Like being thrown further, or being rolled not as far. Watching the new season of Shark Tank and they managed to immediately become a parody of itself by having one of the pitches be Ball 2, the sequel to Ball, powered by AI. To really seal the deal, the ball 2's battery is not rechargeable or designed to be replaced.
