A hidden compound in healthy foods may worsen IBD - Science Daily
Spinach, almonds, and sweet potatoes are often praised for their nutritional value. But new research from the UNC School of Medicine suggests that for people with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), a naturally occurring compound in these foods may contribute to intestinal inflammation. The study, published August 13, 2026 in Cellular and Molecular Gastroenterology and Hepatology (CMGH), was led by postdoctoral scholar Anna Salvador, PhD, RD, LDN, in the lab of Shehzad Z. Sheikh, MD, PhD, Professor of Medicine and Genetics.

Scientists traced a hidden immune route that may worsen tau-linked brain damage - News-Medical
Researchers traced an immune pathway from brain-draining lymph nodes to tau-affected tissue, revealing how peripheral immune activity may become intertwined with neurodegeneration. Study: Priming of CD8+ T cells by peripheral dendritic cells exacerbates tau-mediated neurodegeneration. Image Credit: Antonio Marca / Shutterstock

Cosmic 'hamburger' offers rare edge-on view of where giant planets may take shape - Phys.org
Gomez's Hamburger System. This artist's impression of the Gomez's Hamburger system shows the stacked layers of gas and dust as they rotate around a young star. ALMA observations reveal a direct view of its vertical structure at millimeter wavelengths, allowing astronomers to map the location of the millimeter-sized dust grains and several different gas-phase molecules, which have arranged themselves into distinct levels. Credit: NSF/AUI/NSF NRAO/P. Vosteen. Astronomers using the Atacama Large Millimeter/submillimeter Array (ALMA) were surprised to discover the earliest phases of giant planet formation between the dense layers of gas and dust in the "Gomez's Hamburger" system, referred to as GoHam.
