CALGARY — He had to wait 10 days, but goaltender Devin Cooley finally got a chance at redemption on Sunday and he made the most of it. Starting for the first time since he surrendered seven goals in a blowout loss to the Colorado Avalanche, Cooley made 34 stops as the Calgary Flames recorded a 3-2 win over the defending Stanley Cup champion Carolina Hurricanes, snapping their seven-game winning streak. “You learn so much when you get lit up,” said Cooley, who won his first game of the season. “And of course, if you get lit up, (coach Ryan Huska) isn’t gonna want to play me. So I had a lot of time to work on things and I’ve been working with (goaltending coach Jason LaBarbera) and it worked out. “I took a lot of lessons from the Colorado loss and I used them tonight.”Late in the second period with the visitors up 1-0, Calgary got hemmed in its own end for an extended stretch. As Carolina poured on the pressure looking to extend its lead, it was survival mode for the Flames. “When that’s happening, I just try to slow my breathing down, just relax, just calm down.
