All kinds of entertainment on the midway at the Champlain Valley Fair - WCAX

ESSEX JUNCTION, Vt. (WCAX) - If you’re heading to the Champlain Valley Fair in Essex Junction this year, you can find all kinds of entertainment on the midway. That includes a potentially record-setting event on Tuesday night. The Honky Tonk Hoedown will try to break the record for the world’s largest square dance. The Hoedown is at the Grandstand with doors at 6 p.m. and the show starts at 7 p.m. with Bob Wagner & Friends. Once enough dancers arrive, they will attempt to break the record! They need more than 1,600 dancers. It’s a fundraiser for NOFA-VT, the Northeast Organic Farming Association of Vermont. The Water Wheel Foundation organized the event to raise the money for NOFA-VT. GIANT SAND SCULPTUREThat’s not the only fun you can find at the fair! Our Tia Trudgeon dug up the details on a giant sand sculpture that’s being worked on live for fairgoers to watch. You can find it in the Expo North Building, which is filled with displays. Sculptor Dan Belcher started working on the piece a week ago. Now, his friend Greg Grady has joined the effort to sculpt the 43 tons of sand. They expect to wrap up work on the piece Wednesday.

The employee, Nicholas Vaquero, previously spoke with ABC7 On Your Side Investigates back in March. Vaquero served as the Emergency Operations Center director during part of the county's response to the wildfires that erupted on Jan. 7, 2025. A current OEM employee is alleging a now-former colleague, who had a crucial role as the Eaton Fire raged the first night, was, at times, asleep on the job. During that interview, Vaquero alleged that a now-retired Office of Emergency Management supervisor was seen sleeping while on the overnight shift as Altadena burned.
