Global K-pop sensation BTS said Wednesday they will not submit their music for next year's Grammy Awards, after the Recording Academy introduced a new Asian pop category criticized for restricting the success of regional artists. The South Korean megastars were widely tipped in the running for several of the Grammys' top honors, including Album of the Year, after their comeback album, ARIRANG, became one of this year's best-selling hits. BTS boycott Grammys over new Asian pop award category, Entertainment News - AsiaOne

LOS ANGELES - K-pop group BTS said on Wednesday (July 29) they will not submit any music for consideration at the 69th Annual Grammy Awards in February 2027, citing dissatisfaction with the academy's new category for best Asian pop music performance. The decision marks the first time the South Korean group, one of the biggest names in K-pop, have opted out of the awards ceremony. Each member of the group shared the news in a post on Instagram. "We have decided not to enter the Grammys this year. I hope that music can be heard and loved for what it is, rather than being divided by region or language," they wrote. The Recording Academy announced the new category on June 16 for music from South Korea, Japan, China, and elsewhere in the region. "This category recognises artistic excellence in Asian pop music performances originating from or widely recognised within Asian markets, including but not limited to K-pop, J-pop and C-pop, with meaningful use of one or more Asian languages," the Grammy website says. The Recording Academy said in a statement that BTS' decision was disappointing.

The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power returns in less than a month, and if you’ve forgotten how tense we left things, here’s a fiery new season three trailer to remind you Middle-earth is deeply in peril. We’ve got Sauron, his Orcs, and his Ring-servants (welcome to our nightmares, Nazgnagôl) causing all kinds of chaos, and the Elves, the Dwarves, the people of Númenor, and Gandalf trying to work out their own issues so they stand a chance to fight back. Alas, no input yet from the Balrog (who will be voiced by Simon Pegg), but we glimpse him in the trailer along with some of season three’s other new creatures. “In season three, Middle-earth is at war,” reads Prime Video’s official synopsis. “Five years have passed since the fall of Eregion. Sauron’s armies have marched across the whole of the world, conquering all in their path. Only a few isolated pockets stand between the Dark Lord and total victory—Khazad-dǔm, where the Dwarves are now sealed deep within their mountain halls, and the elven realms of Lindon and Rivendell, which are protected by their Three Rings.” “But deep in the land of Mordor, in his newly completed tower of Barad-dûr, the Dark Lord toils day and
