Wellesley woman accused of killing her two children indicted on murder charges

A Wellesley woman accused of killing her two children before fleeing to Vermont earlier this year was indicted Monday by a Norfolk County grand jury on two counts of first-degree murder, according to court records. Janette MacAusland, 49, is charged with killing her children, Ella, 6, and Kai, 7, in their Wellesley home. Police found the children dead on the night of April 24 after MacAusland arrived distraught and hysterical at her aunt’s house in southern Vermont, saying she’d killed them, authorities said. The indictments allege that MacAusland killed the children “on or about” April 22. The indictment moves the case from Dedham District Court to Norfolk Superior Court, where MacAusland could face life in prison without parole if convicted of first-degree murder. She has been held without bail since her arrest. Her arraignment in Norfolk Superior Court has not been scheduled, prosecutors said. MacAusland was going through a contentious divorce with the children’s father at the time of the killings. Court records show her husband filed for divorce in October 2025, seeking full custody of the children and control of the Wellesley home.

A truck company founder was indicted for fraud. California still paid $50 million for its vehicles

Trevor Milton, the founder and former chief executive of Nikola Corp., helped raise over $1 billion by touting the company as an emerging rival to Tesla. He boasted that Nikola, founded in 2014, had developed the world’s first fully functional hydrogen-powered semi-truck — the Nikola One. He told investors that the company had over 14,000 preorders, representing billions of dollars of future revenue. He claimed Nikola operated the largest hydrogen production facility in the Western Hemisphere to fuel the company’s fleet. The only problem was, none of that was true: Nikola did not develop the world’s first hydrogen truck, and the Nikola One was never fully functional. Also, the company never had that many preorders, and it never developed a hydrogen production facility. Even after Milton was criminally indicted in 2021 and the company reached a costly settlement, the California Air Resources Board allowed Nikola to compete for state funding and sell vehicles through its Clean Truck and Bus Voucher Incentive Project in 2022.

WEST BANK (WABC) -- Brad Lander, the Democratic nominee for New York's 10th Congressional District and former New York City comptroller, said Wednesday that he was detained by the Israel Defense Forces while participating in an olive harvest in the West Bank. In a social media post, Lander wrote: "I've been detained by the IDF, along with a group of rabbis & volunteers. We were simply harvesting olives in a grove near Nehalim in the West Bank. " He added, "The occupation is a crime under international law. Harvesting olives isn't a crime under any law I know. "According to the Israeli human rights group Rabbis for Human Rights, Lander was among roughly 90 volunteers and activists detained Wednesday while accompanying Palestinian farmers during the olive harvest near the village of Nahalin, outside Bethlehem. The group said volunteers had been helping farmers harvest olives on land they had been unable to access since Oct. 7.
